[SOLVED] HD change, OEM license and inconsistent activations

Odd - both files are still showing as errors, yet both should have been replaced by now.

Please run the following commands, and post the results....

DIR C:\Windows\winsxs\maf*.*
DIR C:\maf*.*
DIR C:\windows\sppwinob.* /S
DIR C:\windows\user32.dll.mui /S

The last two could take a couple of minutes each to run - be patient!
Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

That explains it, then :)

Please the fix from the Repair Environment using the following exact command....

XCOPY E:\mafaa\mafaa E:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

Then reboot to normal WIndows and run another SFC command - with luck it should work this time.

Ah -
sorry - I'm getting my threads confused.

reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which
should be the option 'Repair my Computer'

Pick that

You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt

At the prompt type

DIR C:\mafaa

hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try

DIR D:\mafaa

or

DIR E:\mafaa

Then run the following command

XCOPY <drive>:\mafaa\mafaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

reboot to normal Windows, and run another SFC /SCANNOW, and MGADiag, and post the results.

Hmmm, at least the system is now showing as genuine :)

I think we've exhausted the possibilities of file errors with the user32.dll.mui - but we'd best check it first.

Do you have another windows 7 machine (Italian version) you can compare the output from?

If so, run the following commands on both machines, and see what the difference is (I don't have access to an Italian copy - or any other foreign language version)

DIR C:\Windows\user32.dll.mui /S
ICACLS C:\Windows\system32\user32.dll.mui /T

It may simply be that a registry entry is mistakenly calling the English version of the file, rather than the Italian one, for some reason - do you have perhaps an English copy of Office installed, or Virtual Studio??

i cant help but notice there are two different files, one 17MB and the other one 19MB. May it be a hint?

In any cse, i dont have anothe copy of Win7 in italian, but if this resolved the counterfeit issue, im good :) I dont know whether this user32.dll.mui in the en-us folder will bring me any trouble in the future, i think it wont since i run an italian version, but still...

The reason for the different file sizes is simple - one is the 32-bit version, and one the 64-bit version. Both are needed :)
