[SOLVED] Help a Clinical Paranoid Out

ESET is an excellent A/V and any time someone is looking for a paid/licensed product it is my #1 recommendation. Is what you posted above all of ESETlog.txt?

As to uninstalling no longer used video games or any other programs you no longer use, that is a very good move.

Thanks for these elucidations... Yes, what I posted before was the totality of the .txt file; perhaps I'll run it again tomorrow just to be sure. What do you think is the best A/V, free version?
Other than that, am I clean (for) now? I can finally breath? 😅 Is there something else I can do?

Just so you know, it is also likely that some of what ESET found and removed was from quarantine files so they weren't a danger. Nonetheless, I'm glad I had you scan with it.

Opinions will differ on the best free A/V. When I was using Windows 7, I had Microsoft Security Essentials with Malwarebytes Premium (licensed version). On Windows 10, I still have Malwarebytes Premium along with Windows Defender. Then again, from Windows 95 onward, my computer has never been infected.

From what you posted earlier, Avast seemed to run the best on your computer. Looking at both AV-Comparatives and Virus Bulletin, Avast scored 100% in both blocked and user-dependent in the most recent test (see Malware Protection Test September 2018). Scrolling down the latest Virus Bulletin Certification Report, Avast certainly met VB's standards to achieve a VB100 certification (see VB100 Certification Report - December 2018).

Obviously, the choice is yours. :)

Please do the following to Uninstall FRST
  • Right-click on FRST/FRST64, and select Rename.
  • Rename it to Uninstall.exe and press Enter on your keyboard.
  • Double-click on Uninstall.exe. Your computer will restart, and allow it to do so. FRST will now uninstall.

It's true that I see its name very low on the various "best antivirus programs of 2019 / 2018", but that's probably because those websites are very biased regarding this stuff (one of which had it in something like 6th position, while the 1st was Bitdefender and the 2nd was none other than the bloated Norton). The websites you posted on the other hand seems to be way more professional and reliable, I also visited the official Avast webpage and allegedly, they offer plenty of different kind of protections; as you already said yourself it's probably the best choice for my machine. I think I will go with both Malwarebytes (Free) and Avast Free (I know I should opt for at least one licensed program too, but at the moment I really have to cut down every cost possible). I'm really grateful for your great work and I hate the fact I can't make any donation whatsoever for the reason I just mentioned, however I will do suggest this forum to all my friends and acquaintances, hopefully at least one of them will do what I couldn't regarding the donation factor.

Thanks again, Corrine. If something else pops up (hopefully not!) I know where to go. I feel like my PC is even more clean than before regarding pretty much everything and I seriously hope it isn't just a presentiment. The final note would be that the user itself is still the best antivirus out there, but sometimes we let our guard down and that's when these programs come in handy. Thanks for your work, your suggestions and most importantly, your lesson.
I knew from the very first moment I saw this website that it was the best thing I could've done for my machine; here in my country you pay a technician for near the cost of the PC itself and you go back after a whole month and they didn't fix anything, rather they made the situation even worse, with plenty of different means. Not even exaggerating, now you get why I'm so grateful for all this, it really seems like something from the future.

You are most welcome, Memox. I am very happy that you have opted to install both Avast and Malwarebytes. Although I haven't personally used Avast, I've known many people who have and are pleased with it. As to Malwarebytes, I've used it since the very beginning and "know" (virtually, that is) many of the people involved with the program.

Thank you for your kind words. As to donations, we most certainly know and understand that not everyone is in a financial position to make a donation for maintaining the site. As volunteers who help with security, BSOD's, Windows Update, hardware, etc., we do it because we want to help others.

True, I remember using Malwarebytes even on my old laptop for how good it was, so really that was my first choice to begin with. Although I do not know the people behind it as you do (not even virtually), from their posts on the official website I can only assume they do in fact care a lot about their users, and it seems they really mean it. Also, they are very transparent and professional regarding pretty much everything else; that being said, I think we're finished with this, as I said if something pops up I'll let you guys know immediately. Sorry if along the way I didn't explain myself too well, or if I was intractable and/or way too cautious regarding some things. Thanks again and keep up the great work... I think you can now close this thread safely, that is if you think there isn't anything else to be said. :)

You're welcome, again! I'll mark the thread "Solved". Take care.
