Help please. Unable to update

According to the result no hotfixes (updates) are installed and the operating system was installed back in Dec 2020. Have you ever had any success since Dec 2020 with windows updates? Did you join any Windows Insider program?

I actually bought this pc back in Dec 2020. This problem has been going on for a long time. It's my special needs Daughter's pc and because she wasn't moaning about it i just left it. I recently wanted to upgrade it to windows 11 that's when i discovered that i was unable to. She hasn't joined any windows Insider programs.

That's helpful background information. It does look as if it has never successfully updated since she has had it. Was it brand new or a second hand PC?

That's very helpful. It looks as if there was a period between 16/09/2021 and 04/10/2022 when no updates happened.

But since making the changes yesterday you do appear to have feature updates installing so I'm wondering if there is now some progress.

Repeat steps 1, 2 and 4 in the posting instructions and I'll have a look at the latest logs.

The latest scans are looking better. Restart the PC and then try windows update again.

One error relates to a driver issue but I am more concerned with the fact that your system has not updated and is missing a number of security updates. The reasons for the problem seem to be related to servicing stack errors. My opinion is that it is worth trying to manually update to the latest version of Windows 10. Make sure you have a backup of all your data just in case there are any problems.

Download Windows 10

If you click on the above link it will give you the option to update to the latest version:

Give this a go and report if you get any errors. Be patient with the various steps as they can take some time to complete.

It will be good to see the error logs

Please upload the two files setupact.log and setuperr.log in the directory:

%systemdrive%\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther

It would be good to also attach the setupapi.dev.log which can be found here:

%systemroot%\Inf\setupapi.dev.log

Many thanks

The setupact.log can be compressed to a zip file and uploaded or if it is still too large you can share it via OneDrive

I'm sorry that the update did not work - I will need to go back to trying to fix what is wrong with your current system.

Let's see if we can force your servicing stack to update using DISM

  • Download the following update: KB5005260 to: C:\WUTemp - Or copy the downloaded file from the download directory to C:\WUTemp. (Important!)
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type CMD.
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, select the option Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following commands one at a time into the command prompt and press enter after each.
Code:
CD C:\WUTemp
EXPAND.exe ssu-19041.1161-x64_e7e052f5cbe97d708ee5f56a8b575262d02cfaa4.msu -f:* C:\WUTemp
DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\WUtemp\SSU-19041.1161-x64.cab

Let me know if there are any errors - you can copy the text from the Command Prompt window and paste it into your next post.

Did you mean extract the files from KB5005260 into C:\WUTemp folder first?
No simply download the file which is a .msu file into C:\WUTemp.

The extract is done later by the command lines that you paste in one by one from the code box.
