[SOLVED] I have run SFCFix!!

Hi! If I find a computer that won't down load Windows updates, I run SFC /scannow and chkdsk. I have had success with the Microsoft Fixit also.
If I'm understanding everyone, corrupted files can cause a PC to not down load windows updates???Some times I restart two or three times to see if windows will notify me about windows updates. Some times the up dates just decide to finally update and that really bugs me. Some times Microsoft puts out buggy updates. I try not to get to concerned if there is just one or two updates that won't down load.
Any way, this is good stuff and I'm learning new things.
Thanks for your help!!

Yes corrupt files can stop Windows Update from working.

Hi Go The Power! I think if you check this link out, you will find it's very similar to the software you are using!!

Fix Microsoft Windows Update Issues
I am guessing your talking about the Automated troubleshooter? TBH I have never asked a user to run this, the reason being is there is a lot of different scripts found within the file. I am not going to ask a user to run a a fix that I dont understand, what happens if it goes bad? The scripts I have looked at inside this FixIt seem pretty harmless, but a lot are rather generic. Not to say it is totally useless, I just have not found any use for it. This tool will not repair corrupt system files detected by SFC thou

It is completely different, this tool wont help at all with corrupt payload files. If Microsoft already had a tool niemiro wouldn't of spent months-years designing and devolving SFCFix. Why re-invent the wheel?

Hi Go The Power! Here's a dism log that Microsoft fixit put on my desk top! Makes no sense to me! It probably does to you
There are two logs!!
Thanks!!:thumbsup2:

Is your Windows update working?

Hi I have run the SFCFix. It found zero errors! What is my next step??
Thank you for your help!!

If it found zero errors, all is well - there is nothing to fix.

I would suggest that you read other's threads and see what SFCFix generated in other cases -

There is no simple, single answer to your question.

Your link runs the auto fix it and generates those logs.

We use SFCFix here and concentrate on the output of it. We simply do not have the time to figure out exactly what other tools do (that we don't use) and the output they generate.

I don't understand why you're pushing for the use of a tool(s) that you don't understand anything about!

I'm not pushing any thing. Go The Power asked me what I used to solve update problems. I have tried to answer the best I could.
The Microsoft fixit has helped me and that's what I use here at Golden Oaks. I'm also trying to learn how sysnative solves windows updates. Nothing more. Nothing less. I'm not trying to change anything.
I don't understand how a lot of tools work. They work!!I don't care about all the technicality. I'm not asking anyone to spend their time explaining how this Microsoft fixit works. I'm not asking anyone to use it. I was asked questions and I tried to answer them.
Yes Go The Power my updates are working. I thought this was a place to learn as well as a place to help others.
If this thread is irritating the staff, then let's mark it solved and move on.
Thank you everyone for your replies.
I don't see any difference with my question and other questions that are asked every day here on sysnative.
New software comes out every day. I ran SFCFix. It found zero errors. I was advised that I didn't need to do any thing more. I was satisfied with that answer, but still was curious. This is the way I learn and pass it forward. I try to learn some thing every day!!Can we not agree to disagree here on sysnative?
You may mark this solved at your discretion.

Yes corrupt files can stop Windows Update from working.
Thanks Go The Power. That was one of my main questions. That's why I would run system repair if I found errors after running SFC /scannow.
If System repair was unable to fix the corrupted files, then I would consider going back to factory settings. If if was on my PC, I would use one of the 14 back up images of my OS ;that I have on my seatols 1TB external drive.:thumbsup2:

PS Will just add this one last reply! I thought this was a great thread and I learned some new things. Sorry that some here didn't think so!
I'm not trying to change the way sysnative addresses windows update issues. I'm just trying to learn new things.
I will keep following the threads about this topic and try to learn more about SFCFix. I would like to try and learn how this tool works; if there is a school or some formal training that this old brain could possibly absorb.
Thank you!!

Sysnative is an entity.

As I previously suggested, to figure out how Sysnative Forum Staff Members solve Windows Updates threads, please carefully read through the 2,000+ threads in the Windows Update forum.

Such threads go step-by-step with rather explicit instructions.

There is no book or written guidelines that will give you the answer you seek in a sentence or two.

It involves a lot of hard work, starting with reviewing threads to see/figure out exactly what others have done (steps taken).

This is where SFCFix comes in, if anything fails to repair these files we (the windows update helpers) can create scripts, input them into SFC and fix these files.

I hope I can absorb more than just a sentence or two. Maybe not!! I have reviewed threads here; some that have 40+ replies. IMHO a system repair might be in order. Maybe even a back to factory, if a system repair can not fix the corrupted files and possibly a corrupted registry. I'm sure the OP is getting a little tired by now, but what do I know!!
I have done a little home work on these things. I have much more to do!! My system files seem to be OK Go The Power!!
Thank you for your help Go The Power.:thumbsup2:
Create a system repair disc

[h=3]Note[/h]
  • If you're prompted to insert a Windows installation disc, it means that the files needed to create the system repair disc can't be found on your computer. Insert a Windows 7 installation disc.

A repair disc/original windows 7 disc is mainly only going to be useful to repair default RTM components, this means the original files which Windows 7 come with. What about all the other component files that come with windows update files? A repair disc wont help for this, as these files wont be on the disc. This is where we use SFCFix to replace the corrupt files, there is no need for a fresh install of windows to fix these issues.

What type of HELP would we be if we told everyone to do this? Most users dont want to do this, that is why they seek help.

That's really cool my friend. I would really like to learn how to do that. I probably don't have the facilities to learn that any more.
If I can ask one more question Go The Power?? Is there not a time when you just say there's to much going on here and advise the OP to restore to factory settings, or will this tool eventually Get-er-Done!! Also, will this tool do more than a system repair disk. If it takes 40+replies to repair the system files and register; and I was the OP, I would be getting getting a little impatient and flustered by then.
Thank you for your reply Go The Power and the invite to be friends here on sysnative.
I guess that's about all my questions for now. Thank you everyone for your replies to this thread!
Gary!

I understand what your saying Go The Power and I find no fault with your reasoning; but wondering how many OP's don't realize they have a option to restore with a fresh copy of windows. I'm just a novice to all this, but I would never hang around after 40+ replies and still having the same issue:wave:
I have wasted enough of your time sir. Thank you Go The Power!! I will follow your threads and try to learn!:thumbsup2:
