IE9 is installed, won't uninstall, IE10 won't install, and IE9/IE10 BOTH show in upda

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the KB2699988 file that says failed that you found. When I try to run the KB update, it says NOT APPLICABLE for this system. Oh well, not good news, but a little update.

Is there a way I could manually download each KB update file contained within MS12-037: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer: June 12, 2012???

If so, can you find the link?

OK!

Looks like, according to the CBS log, the failure is actually this:

It is stating that there's a hotfix rollup package for IE that's installed that isn't kosher, and it's marking your store corrupt because of it:
MS12-037: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer: June 12, 2012

Not sure why it's complaining about that old hotfix package, but if you see it on your machine, uninstall it, reboot, and try again. If it fails again, upload the IE10_main.log and the cbs.log file immediately thereafter.

Ron, have you tried installing the update readiness tool? Here is the link:

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [August 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Center

after that, run windows updates again, reboot, try to uninstall IE10

If it works, use the IE10 update blocker here:

Download Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 10 from Official Microsoft Download Center

Deek

Hi Derek,

The packages from KB2699988 aren't in the System Update Readiness Tool, so running it won't help unless we get him a clean copy of the package in the right folder first :)

Why do you want to block the IE10 update? The OP wants to install it, not block it.

Tom

P.S. Love the avatar!

Just curious --- please run this command from CMD prompt:

Code:
whoami /all > 0 & start notepad 0

A Notepad will open. Please attach.

I am not positive about this...but I don't believe posting your SID online is a good idea...you may want to change a few numbers of the SID's before posting.

Anyone know if your SID getting into the wild is a bad idea?

My purpose in asking for the command to be run was indeed for the SID.

I was curious if the hidden admin (SID -500) was the user account being used or not.
