Is this normal?

Hi again

Well, the i7 MacBook should prove to be a nice machine. It is a premium device, so make sure to invest in the Apple Care extended warranty to protect that investment.

That said, your current laptop shouldn't have had the constant fan noise/ overheat issues. That is the sort of thing you can return/replace/repair under warranty if simple adjustments don't work. Many of my customers are very happy with their ultrabooks of all sorts - from Chromebooks, to Android/Apple/Microsoft tablets, to Windows ultrabooks, to MacBooks. Most run whisper-quiet. The high-end models are usually the quietest of the bunch.

Workstations and gaming laptops, on the other hand, can be expected to have a bit more fan noise, as they have so much firepower they can push the limits of "quiet" cooling.

Enjoy your ultrabooks, no matter what sort - there are many wonderful devices out there.

Cheers

Do £1000 laptops have 16GB RAM?
Not a valid question. Some might, many probably have 8GB which is still a sizeable chunk of RAM.

I have several computers here. This computer has 16GB but that is overkill. The others have 8GB which is typically considered the "sweetspot". That is, for most systems, less than 8GB and performance degrades, more than 8GB and the performance gains are negligible at best.

Is there a noticeable difference between i5 and i7 processor or should both operate well?

Both are great processors and for many tasks, there are no noticeable differences. This (besides price) is why most gamers who build their own computers choose an i5. Of course there are many other factors that affect performance, including the RAM type, speed and amount of RAM, drive, and the graphics solution - and again, the task being performed.

Retina display, great for graphics. Speed - what do you mean by that? Do you mean turbo boost provided for mqcs? Is it measured in ghz?

I fixed my typo in my post and where you quoted it.

I meant RAM type, "RAM speed" and amount of RAM. Faster RAM provides faster performance. That said, more RAM is generally more important than faster RAM.

I never said anything about Retina display so have no clue what you mean by that.

Graphics -retina display good?

Sorry what's the difference between RAM amount and speed? What's speed measured in - ghz?

what's the difference between RAM amount and speed?
??? Sorry but it seems obvious to me.

8Gb is more than 4 Gb and 2400MHz is faster than 1600MHz.

And speed is measured in Hz. 1600MHz = 1.6GHz.

Retina display is just an Apple marketing term. It is their brand name for what they call their devices that have higher resolution than their older devices. It is good, but nothing revolutionary compared to the competition. Not everyone raves about it: The Worst Thing Ever: Retina Display.

I didn't know sorry

Ok went for a MacBook Pro cuz its more secure and reliable than Windows, also cuz my windows laptop gets heated when having just one tab open when browsing which is pretty bad.

I don't think it's possible to have a laptop that doesn't get heated when gaming, though? The fan noise is soon distracting!

It's really bad when it's in high resolution and the settings are good graphic quality, when in lower resolution the laptop doesn't get so heated.

Well, that is certainly your opinion that no doubt, others will not agree with. Make no mistake, bad guys target MacBook's too. As for reliability, there is nothing to suggest a MacBook Pro is more reliable.

All notebooks are prone to heating issues when tasked.

is overheating while the laptop charging dangerous? i apologise if that's a silly question, i genuinely apologise. i get freaked out and scared so always feel like i should take it off charge in case there's a fire lol or am i being paranoid?
Unless you buy a really good cooler i assume?
the cost is usually so expensive like 500 quid whereas others t's like 50 quid ahhhhh, am i looking in the right place lol?? i don't know what the price should be i'm legit so confused

Of course it is dangerous. Any electronics that "over" heat can be dangerous. But without know actual temps, we don't know how hot it actually is. You seriously cannot touch it without getting burned, there's a serious problem.

I have no clue what you are talking about here. I have never seen any cooler cost 500 quid. And I am not aware of any aftermarket replacement coolers for laptops. There are laptop cooling pads which I recommend. But note I only recommend those with their own power supply. Many get their power from the notebook's USB port and that just puts more demand on the notebook.

are they compatible with MacBooks, and what's the normal price range?

I don't mean to be crass, but you can do some of this homework for yourself and have your answers faster than it took for you to ask the question! :(

Did you look at the pads in that link I provided? You can easily find the answers yourself through that link. You can easily see they connect via USB. Do MacBooks have USB? Yes. And you see what size the pads are so you can get one for 15", 17" 19" or whatever size notebook you have. And you can see the prices.

Sorry digerati, I didn't mean to bother you

It is not a bother in that sense. I could just ignore you if it bothered me. But note we are here to help users help themselves. We don't expect everyone to become computer experts but it is to user's advantage if they can find the information they seek by themselves. It is much quicker than posting the question and waiting hours or even days for someone to reply.

Search engines like Google and Bing are powerful tools that can help users find all the information they need. I use them all the time when helping folks on forums, either to find the answers they seek, or to verify my own facts before I post.

But I understand completely that sometimes just entering the right search terms into Google or Bing can be a real challenge and frustrating if you don't know what words to enter. But in this case, I already did the searching for you and provided a link to cooling pads that already had the answers to your next questions. All you had to do was follow the link. I can't tell you which pad to get because first, I don't know what size your laptop is and second, there are so many styles (and many with different options like USB hubs, speakers, etc.) I don't know what you would like.

I don't want you to hesitate to ask questions. I am just saying you often can help yourself faster than we can. Remember, Bing Google is our friend. But when they don't help, or cause further confusion, then by all means, ask here. That's why we are here.
