Hi,

Great, please attempt to update if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Okay, it's looks like some things went through, but I'm still getting a different error. Now the error is (0xc1900204) instead of the original. I hope that's a kind of progress? Anyway, here's the new CBS logs.

Hi,

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

I don't see an attachment on your last post, sorry. Did you forget it, or am I missing something?

Oops! I've posted the wrong canned speech, so I've changed my previous post...

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update again and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

How is this system activated? With a legal license and is this system still a part of an company?

Well if I understand the question right, this is a private computer which was pre-built. There should not be anything illegal about it, including its license.

Some questtions:
1. are you trying to update Windows 10 to the latest build?
2. or are you trying to upgrade to Windows 11 which results in error 0xc1900204?

I'm trying to make sure my Windows 10 is on the latest build. I'd rather avoid Windows 11 if I can.

Okay! Please do the following.

Download the
61c988c2082b1-updateassistent.png
Windows 10 Update Assistant to your desktop.
  • Right-click on Windows10Upgrade9252.exe and select the option: Run as administrator.
  • Press the Update now button, click after the compatibility check on Next.
  • The Update Assistant will now download the latest Feature Update.
  • After verifying the download, the Feature Update will be installed.
  • When this process is ready, click on the Restart now button to complete the installation.

The update assistant wasn't working for me before, and it seems to still have the same issues. Partway through the installation it attempts to reinstall windows, which I've also tried to allow in the past, even though it wanted to delete everything. It seems like this isn't supposed to happen as per your instructions,s o I didn't let it go through this time.

Hi,

Export the Windows Update log
  • Right-click on the Start button and click Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  • Copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards
Code:
Get-WindowsUpdateLog
  • Wait for the message "WindowsUpdate.log written to C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.log".
  • Attach the logfile WindowsUpdate.log to your next reply.

Update: Is it correct that the Update Assistant failed with the following message in the past?
Code:
Your files, apps and Settings can’t be kept because your current version of Windows might be installed in an unsupported directory or you are trying to install an older version of Windows.

Please run the following commands in an elevated post and post the result.
Code:
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EditionVersion"
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language"

Yes, that's what it said when I couldn't bring my files and apps over. Here's the results of the commands, as well as the WindowsUpdate log you asked for earlier.
