I did. No luck. I completely disconnected my backup drive.

Something that is interesting though - I have several drives. C (System), D, T, V, and B. When I do windows updates, folders with names like "3f97a30f56be5e7b0653dc878610f06f" are getting created on these external drives. Why isn't windows doing everything on the System (C) Drive?

That's the cause of the issue I think. This should be set to boot drive.

Seems like it can't be set, but it's based off of whatever drive has the most free space. I dont think thats the issue though, because after disconnecting my B drive, my system C drive then has the most available free space @ 80gigs

I can't find a location to download the raw installer. I tried searching the catalog Microsoft Update Catalog but when I click on the relevant download links, its not actually for the KB4487078 ?

And Ive tried installing all of them and it says not applicable for my PC, so which one should I actually download?!

Also It seems many other users have had problems with this update ( for example [SOLVED] - Windows 7 SP1 Update KB4487078 -Security and Quality Rollup updates for .NET Framework 4.7.2 ) and a custom script was created for them -- is that not applicable in my case?

Okay I found the relevant installer ndp46-kb4483451-x64_41ba9b8a814351a318e78e4e1c02adc7e9fff67a.exe

When I install it manually it fails saying "cannot find the file specified", and heres the html log file :

Okay so in the log line, it says :

so when I navigate to that installer and try to run it manually, the following window appears

which is odd, because I don't have my B: drive connected.

so I tried to force the installation to my local drive, based on the link you sent before, like so:


C:\Users\Studio>msiexec TARGETDIR="C:\Temp" /i C:\78c0a96c1be225c0bd\NDP47-KB448
3451.msp

but It says the taget package cannot be opened.

Im mainly wondering why my B: drive is in the path for any of this stuff when its disconnected.

WOOOOOOOOOOO Thanks to your help, consider this solved. Thank you so much for all your assistance, time, and dedication! I just made a donation, since you guys work hard over here! :)

Since I noticed NetFx471 in the file path, I used the cleanup utility you had suggested before to force cleanup/remove specifically that version (last time I selected "cleanup all", but I dont think it worked entirely at that time, because running applications would have been using the DLL's)

Then I rebooted, and ran it again for 4.7.1, since no applications would have a handle on the files anymore. Then rebooted again, and ran clean up all versions". And then I installed .NET 4.7.2 manually.

Then I rebooted again, and checked for updates, and they all installed sucessfully!

Thank you so much again omg IT FEELS SO GOOD knowing I wont be getting annoyed about windows update every hour now lol :)
