Hmm, that's odd. Are you able to clone this server, so we can safely test if an in-place upgrade with the server 2016 ISO will resolve this issue?

Not today. It's time to rest - have a good weekend. I'll think about it on Monday. The server is located remotely from the office - I can't imagine how this can be done yet?

You can use a tool like Disk2Vhd from Sysinternals to create an VHD-image to load in another Hyper-V environment for testing purposes.

Have a nice weekend too.

Is using Disk2Vhd safe for a running server - is it in use? Will there be any problems with work? The size of the system disk is 153Gb, free 30.7Gb. The description of disk2vhd says about the 127Gb limit

I ran this tool several times on production systems that were in use without any issues.

Hi,

Great, please try to perform an in-place upgrade on the VM using the following instructions.

In-place upgrade Server 2016
  • Mount the Windows Server ISO and run Setup.exe.
  • Use the option Download and install updates, drivers (recommended) and click Next.
  • In the next screen select the image you want to install.

  • Depending on your Windows Server version and license, you may see a screen prompting you to enter the licensing key.
  • Then accept the EULA. To perform a in-place upgrade, you need to check keep personal files and apps. Then click Next.

  • After clicking Next, an upgrade process will start checking for updates, when this is ready click install to start the in-place upgrade.

Good afternoon. After completing the in-place upgrade procedure, the problems with installing updates were resolved - a screenshot in the attachment. I will try it on a working system - I hope everything goes without problems. Thank you very much for your help in solving the problem.

Hi,

You're welcome and this is great news! Let me know the result of the production server... 🤞

Hi. On the working system, the update was successful. The only exception was that I had to reinstall IIS - it was in use. Thank you very much again for your help.

Hi,
