[SOLVED] KB890830 win7 update keeps popping up at every time even if it is already installed

Is the update still showing Massimo? It's been a few days since Patch Tuesday now.

I'm sorry Aura. I overlooked your last replay because it was on the second page and I apologize for it. Thanks a lot.
The update is still showing now. Note that I did't installed so far all the patches from microsoft, but only the security patches, because some was not useful for me and some introduced only update useful for Win10 upgrade in which at the moment I'm not interested in. And some other I excluded as well, because I don't know their actual functions, as Microsoft did not provided sufficient information about them and I don't want to introduce damage in place of enhancements (already occured some time ago when the icon for updates near the clock disappeared due to a malfunctioning update). Maybe one or the other of them could resolve my problem, I don't know... One or two claims to be Windows Update Client enhancements but I'm not sure if they are related to Win10 upgrade.
Thanks. Bye.

Which KBs do you still have left to install? Can you list their KB number?

Basically, you don't want to install KBs that are related to Windows 10, is that right? You don't want to upgrade, or don't want to upgrade now?

Yes, I don't want to install update related to Win10 and I don't want to upgrade. Maybe I'll upgrade in the future, but I think not. I think I'll upgrade a Win7 inside a VM, so that I have both Win7 e Win10.

Alright, I'll check them one by one and let you know which ones you can install and which ones you don't want to install (if they are related to Windows 10).

Thank you very much, Aura!
But I'm afraid it'll be a hard work on your part...
Do it when you'll have spare time to dedicate (if any...), it's definitely not a matter of urgency!
Thanks. Bye.

KB2574819, install it if you use RDP.
KB2592687, install if if you use RDP.
KB2830477, install if if you use RDC and RDS.
KB3048761, could prevent an annoying bug, you should install it.
KB3050265, this update is related to Windows 10. If you have Windows 7 Professional or above, installing it adds a GPO to the Local Group Policy Editor to block the update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3050265
KB3080079, install it if you use RDS and RDP.
KB2952664, related to Windows 10.
KB2990214, related to Windows 10.
KB2999226, related to Windows 10 but it's for application compabitility (if the program was made for Windows 10, then it can be used on earlier version of Windows). You could install it.
KB3013531, only relevant if you use a Windows Phone, and copy .mkv files from your system to it.
KB3020369, an update that is more relevant for Windows system deployed in an entreprise network and have issues. I would avoid it if this is your home computer.
KB3020370, only relevant if you play with the cmitrust.dll file.
KB3021917, telemetry update, can be used to prepare Windows 10.

Wow, this is indeed long :P If you want, you can take this URL:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/$NUMBER

And replace the $NUMBER part for the KB number. For example, the next KB on the list would be KB3035583 (which is the "Get Windows 10" app by the way). So your URL would be:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3035583

Hi Aura. You did a lot of work. Thanks a lot, really!
I'll go on on my own, using MSKB, as you suggested.
I'll ask your help (providing a list , short... I hope) only when information provided by MS is not clear and I don't understand the purpose of the update. For some of them in effect Microsoft is not very clear and exhaustive.
Thank you. Bye.

Hi Aura. By the way, I've found a list of KB I made the past week or so. I don't understand clearly which is their purpose. Maybe some of them can resolve my issue (some are related somehow to Windows Update!), but I've not as much information as I need (MS doesn't provide the necessary information or it is not clear to me).
Here is the list:
kb/3065987
kb/3075851
kb/3077715
kb/3083324
kb/3083710
kb/3102810
Thanks if you can help me figuring out what they do and if they're useful to me.
Bye.

Sadly, it seems that KB for the Windows Update Client related updates doesn't tell us a lot about it. Some people think that it's to integrate the Windows 10 upgrade in it, some think it's to solve Windows Update issues. Which means I'm in the dark for KB3065987, KB3075851, KB3083324 and 3083710. Only install KB3102810 if your system receives updates via SCCM (which I doubt unless this is a company computer), or if you tried to upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update and svchost.exe is stacking the CPU at 100% usage.

KB3077715 is good to install.

Thanks a lot, Aura, really...
I think I'll wait until more information is provided about KB3065987, 3075851, 3083324 and 3083710. KB3102810 is not useful to me and I'll install only KB3077715.
Thanks. Bye

I also hope that Microsoft will start giving more details about their updates in the KB. There's a petition going on by the MVP Susan Bradley about it, I don't know what the outcome will be.

Hi Aura, sorry for being late.
Finally the issue went away, though it took a lot of work and time and also some luck.
I did some trial and error, included running MicrosoftEasyFix50202.msi and MicrosoftFixit50123.msi, in order to eventually fix Windows Update Client, but I don't know if they helped or not... However The problem now is solved.
Now the settings are as follows.

Updates not installed and hidden:
kb2952664
kb3013531
kb3020370
kb3021917
kb3035583
kb3040272
kb3045645
kb3068708
kb3068708
kb3078667 (causes very slow usb recognition)
kb3080149
kb3107998
kb3112343 (Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: December 2015)
kb3118401
kb3121255
kb3123862
KB3133977
kb3135445 (Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: February 2016)
kb3137061
kb3138612 (Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: March 2016)
kb3138901
kb3147071
kb3153731

Windows Update Client installed is KB3050265 (dated June 2015): the latest, as far as I could see, that shows (in my system) the windows update icon in the systray, that is not true for the newer updates.
Wuaueng.dll version is 7.6.7601.18847 (last modified 9 may 2015).
The KB890830 (MRT.exe) version now installed is 5.36.12600.0 (last modified 11 may 2016), and if I search for new windows updates it is not shown again.
By the way, a different problem was caused by the KB3078667 update: usb keys and drive recognition was extremely slow; unistalling it that was solved.
Thanks. Bye.
Massimo

Sorry for the late reply as well.

Thanks for the update Massimo, glad to see that everything is back in order :)
