Keyboard not working in Save Mode options

Hi BlueRobot,
thanks for replying

first a small correction and more info:
- I found out that the "Device Not Recognized" relates to my Wacom tablet.
I unplugged-replugged several times-nothing
I plugged it into another (blue) port on another port bank (further up on the panel) and it re-installed and works now

- I found a yellow triangle after "VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller" in Div. Manager...?
I tried to update the driver but it says it 's got the latest.

Do you still say to completely uninstall all Universal Serial BUS Controllers?

Log collector tool? where do I find it?

PS:
the triangle is gone after re-booting
at this point it's hard to see any changes since everything is working now.
It seems that the lower bank of 4 USB ports sometimes works - sometimes not.
I need to have it checked - unless you recommend something I can do

Thanks

The log collection tool can be found here - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 + Vista

Please follows steps 1-3 and upload the folder in your next post.

Yes, please follow these steps accordingly:

This method resolves steps where the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or corrupted.
  1. Select Start, then type device manager in the Search box, and then select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Press and hold (or right-click) a device and select Uninstall. Repeat for each device.
  3. Once complete, restart your computer. Your USB controllers will automatically install.

Did you manage to complete the aforementioned procedure? Still experiencing the same issues?

Yes - I did … but cannot say if it changed anything since, as mentioned above, everything is working fine for the last 24 hours (keyboard able to operate in boot menu etc.) As mentioned above it came back by itself, after multiple un/replugging into various ports, as well as the Wacom, which was also
not recognized. So-at the time when re-installing all USSB controllers it was already working.
I checked sfc...all good, checked by going into save mode-... keyboard works.
I have though an error code 455 ESENT...??
But that lower USB port-bank on the computer is where most problems occurred.
(devices there are recognized … then all of a sudden not …)

It's the sporadic / unpredictable nature of the problem that makes it hard to pinpoint

Any results from the diagnostic tool?

Thanks

To clarify, since reinstalling your USB controller drivers? You've still been experiencing the same issues?

There was a BIOS update your motherboard which was meant to improve USB 3.0 compatibility, but seems like you already have that version.

Looking through the FAQs on the support page for your motherboard, noticed this one:

When "USB 2.0 controller" is disabled in BIOS, I noticed some USB ports are not available. | FAQ - GIGABYTE U.K.

Could you please boot into BIOS and check that all the USB controller settings are enabled?

GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.0) | Motherboard - GIGABYTE U.K.

I'll look through the logs tonight and see if I can find anything. Could you please confirm that the above information is for your motherboard model version and revision number?

Not "since re-installing your USB controllers" … it fixed itself before that.
All is working fine now - including keyboard functions in save mode, bios, etc … before windows starts … as in arrow up and down etc
Also the Wacom tablet is working again, but in another USB port bank/array (red)
… after unplugging / replugging many times - in different ports.
The array it was connected to sometimes recognizes devices … sometimes not...???!!!???
So-at the moment all works. But it sometimes kicks out … keyboard not working … or only in Windows
Other device not starting / not recognized …. all by itself, without me changing anything.

I will check your recommendations later (not at home right now) and let you know

Thanks

Hello BlueRobot,
I went into BIOS but at first glance cannot see anything there that mentions USB Settings. I'm hesitant to
play around there. I'm not a techy.
Can you provide instructions? I don't have a manual for Gigabyte.
Thanks

PS: I managed - got into BIOS > Integrated...something >
there is:
-USB Controllers-enabled
-USB Legacy Functions-enabled
-USBStorage Functions-enabled
-R_USB30 Controllers-enabled
-R_USB30 Turbo-disabled
-F_USB30 Controllers-enabled

that's it … hope it helps
there is much more but can't make a screenshot here …
please let me know if you need more

Thanks, your BIOS settings seem to be okay regarding USB. I suspect that this may be an issue with the motherboard itself rather than anything related to Windows. There is a possibility that the ports are faulty.

Please download and run the Intel Driver support assistant - Download Intel® Driver & Support Assistant

Please install any chipset drivers which it recommends. It may not recommend any. I just want to eliminate there being any issues with drivers.

Thanks BlueRobot for your consistent attendance.
I just talked to a local IT guy and he mentioned that it could be a faulty port / bent pin ...
which then results sometimes in that array of ports to short out...??

I will do the Intel driver Assistent
PS: just did … no updates available … everything is up-to-date.

I will go and check USB ports with a flashlight

I suspected that there may be issues physically with the ports themselves. Have you noticed anything?
