Large amount of corruptions that could not be fixed automatically by SFCfix.exe

Oh, this time SFC returned a clean log. Alright, try to install an update and when it fails, upload both the logs below so I can review them.

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Hi Aura,

WindowsUpdate.log + CBS.log: WindowsUpdatelog.zip

Failed to install "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3192441)."

I'm still on version 1511 (10586.104)

Alright, open a command prompt with Admin Rights, and enter the commands below, one by one (you can copy/paste them, one by one, in the command prompt)
Code:

del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*

Hi Aura,

Followed your instructions, there are a few files that can't be accessed:
Sysnative1.PNG

Alright, try to install the update again. If it fails, upload the CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log for me again please.

According to the CBS.log, a manifest file is missing, but it doesn't state which one. Let's say if DISM can tell us which one it is.

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption
Follow the instructions below to run a DISM operation on your system.
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Let the scan run until the end (100%). Depending on your system, it can take some time;
  • Copy the C:\Windows\Logs\DISM folder and C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file on your Desktop, then right-click on it, go to Send to... and select Compressed .zip archive;
  • Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the DISM scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Hi Aura,

Followed your instructions and here are the logs:
CBS.zip
DISM.zip

Btw, what causes all these corruptions and missing files? If I know what causes them, maybe I can avoid them in future. Thanks!

Hi there Mewlet!

Let's try upgrading to the latest release of Windows 10.

Visit the Microsoft Windows 10 page here: Windows 10

I would recommend using the media creation tool on that page to create installation media using an 8GB or larger flash drive (if you have an empty spare handy), this will avoid downloading the files again if the installation fails.
Alternatively, click the 'update now' button and run the installer.

If the upgrade fails, zip and attach C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log with your reply.

Hi zcomputerwiz,

Thanks for helping out!

Followed your instructions. The installation process got to 3x% and then stopped with the message "Windows 10 Setup: Windows 10 installation has failed"

Here's the SetupAct.log: setupact.zip

Code:
2016-11-09 11:14:42, Error SP Failed to get driver packages from the online system. Error: 0x80070057[gle=0x0000007a]

I see an invalid parameter error getting the driver packages. Let's check if DISM will give a little more information.

That's what I expected.

Please try the command again, then when it fails zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log and C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log with your reply.

Unfortunately there wasn't any additional information.

I'd like to take a look at the Drivers registry hive.

Please manually upload the drivers hive by following these instructions:

Upload Drivers Hive
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  2. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select copy
    Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  3. Right-click on your Desktop and select paste
  4. Right-click on the DRIVERS file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
  5. Upload the zip from your Desktop to a file sharing service such as DropBox, OneDrive, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

Looks like the hive is missing a rather large number of keys. I'd like to try replacing the drivers hive.

Please create a full backup and copy any important files to removable media before following any of these instructions!
Also follow the instructions to create a System Restore point here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...63-42c52c79a96e/create-a-system-restore-point

  1. Close all open programs and save all your work. You will need to reboot the machine during this process.
  2. Download DRIVERS.zip from -->View attachment DRIVERS.zip<-- to your desktop and extract the file DRIVERS to your desktop (it has no file extension)
  3. Download RegBak from this page (it's under the Freeware section at the bottom of the page): Acelogix Software - Download products
  4. Extract the contents of the .zip file to the a folder of your choice.
  5. Double click on regbak64.exe to launch RegBak. Press Yes on the UAC prompt that will appear
  6. Click New Backup to open the new backup window. Leave the backup path as the default.
  7. Click Click here to view details and uncheck all options except for C:\Windows\System32\config\DRIVERS. Press OK
  8. Click Start to create a backup.
  9. Once the backup is done, click Close to return to the main RegBak screen. You have now backed up the registry. Close RegBak
  10. Navigate to the folder you saved your backup (It should be C:\Windows\RegBak\PC-NAME\DATE)
  11. Inside the folder, double click Windows, System 32 and config to get to a folder with the DRIVERS hive
  12. Copy the DRIVERS file from your desktop (not the zip file), to that folder. When asked if you want to replace the current DRIVERS file, choose yes.
  13. Open RegBak again. Highlight the backup in the list (it should be the only one), and press Restore. Click Start. RegBak will reboot your computer to complete the restore process.
