[SOLVED] Latency after clean W10 instal. Popping & stuttering in audio, video & games. FIX: I updated LAN, chipset and USB drivers.

Thanks for the reply!
I uninstalled the current driver and installed the one from the link you provided.
I actually see improvements in the DPC latency, it still spikes, but the spikes are less noticeable than before and videos aren't as delayed as before.
Could you provide me with a link to the driver for my storage device?

There are unfortunately no Windows 10 AHCI controller drivers for your motherboard (that you can test from AMD). You could see if installing the chipset for your motherboard improves things, though.

990FX Drivers & Support

Scroll down and install :
Windows 10 - 64-Bit Edition
AMD Chipset Drivers

Do Not install any of the RAID drivers provided on that page. They could potentially make your problem much, much worse.

It looks like AMD's Knowledgebase suggests using the stock W10 'Standard SATA AHCI Controller driver' for this chipset:

Recommendations
Desktop systems based on AMD 6-Series, 7-Series, 8-Series, 9-Series, Socket AM4, and Socket TR4 chipsets running Windows® 10 should use the Microsoft provided Standard SATA AHCI Controller driver that comes installed with Windows® by default. This configuration ensures compatibility and offers the best experience with most types of mass storage devices.

That's essentially what I expected. Thankfully, that is what appears to be installed on the system:
Code:

If you are still experiencing issues, you should try installing the chipset drivers. We were discussing the storage drivers, which are separate from the chipset drivers. Again, do not install any of the RAID drivers on that page. Only install the AMD Chipset Drivers for Windows 10 64-Bit Edition.

This further reduced the spikes!
The driver that is currently spiking according to LatencyMon is USBPORT.sys
Is there anything i can do about this?
Also the best advice i received on this problem was you telling me not to rely so much on LatencyMon and see for myself that the spikes are actually affecting the way my PC works.
Thanks mate!

Glad I was able to help. The USB issues may not be fixable. ASRock hasn't provided an updated driver for the ASRock XFast USB devices since 2013. You can see if their latest drivers will help: ASRock XFast USB

I would recommend that you first create a system restore point in case the older drivers cause issues.

Videos at higher resolutions are a bit choppy, that never happened before with this graphics card so i will try and install that driver that you linked.

Dear writhziden,

Unfortunately the dxgkrnl.sys is still spiking from time to time which causes videos to get choppy at higher resolutions (1440p and 4k), i will install the newest AMD drivers again.
But the problems i am experiencing now are so minute in comparison to those before starting this thread that i am quite happy with how my PC works.
Thank you so very much for your help and you can mark this thread as solved. The world needs more people like you!

Glad you're mostly happy. Keep trying different drivers for the display card if you want to fix the latency issues with that. You could try uninstalling the AMD display drivers and the RadeonSettings software and seeing if Windows 10 installs something more stable from the Microsoft drivers repository after uninstalling and rebooting.
