**** End of log ****

Also I want to let you know I am about to leave on a trip to attend a wedding. I will not be able to respond until Sunday, but i will be back.

Thanks for all the help you are giving me

No problem about the trip - I have to work out why the errors have re-appeared!
I'll try and get to it tomorrow and get back to you before you return.

I'm confused!
There should be no references to 'legacy_wscsvc' in the registry.

However, it's possible that there is still a missing Key which may obviate the need....

I've uploaded a file - scnot2.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive

Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Save it to the default location
This should create a file scnot2.reg
right-click on the file, and select Merge
Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.
Close all windows, and reboot.

Run another Farbar scan, and post the results

ok did that scan is below. Having a weird problem since I merged that last fire. When I start the computer up the microsoft security center pops up and says my active protection is turned off, so I turn it on through microsoft security essentials but it doesnt really recognize that its on, if I restart it does the same thing. Looks like it popped up in the Farbar scan too, its not causing any problems just thought I would let you know that it is happening in case it is helpful.

**** End of log ****

I suspect that the problem is that Windows Defender is attempting to start as well, and is conflicting with MSE.

Please run the following command in an Elevated Command Prompt...

SC config WinDefend /start= demand

reboot and see how things are.

did not work, Farbar scan is the same and I still get the weird conflict coming up from a windows security alert every time i start up.

I may have executed the command wrong. I pasted in what you had put exactly 'SC config WinDefend /start= demand' and it printed out a bunch of info but it did not seems to adjust anything. I removed the slash and put in 'SC config WinDefend start= demand' and it gave me a message that said Success, to some effect. But I redid the farbar scan and its the same as last time, still get the windows security alert when I start up.

Try just uninstalling MSE and reinstalling....I like avast myself, but whatever you prefer, that should make your security center alert go away

The farbar results are now normal for a machine with MSE installed - there is a slight change in the Windefend area which should have prevented the conflict.

I need to do some checking - but I suspect that the problems is going to be an easy registry mod.

back tomorrow - busy day today!

Looks like we got off on a tangent on this one. Since you PC should now be relatively clean, have you tried reinstalling or updating the game?

Have you run DXDiag, or reinstalled your video drivers yet? It is possible it's sound related as well...reinstalling Video drivers is your best bet assuming DXDiag is happy.

Is your video integrated or an add in card? If it is an add in card, do you have an integrated card that you aren't using?

FYI - Please uninstall ATI anything prior to reinstalling your video driver. Do you need help with the uninstall/install process?

Tidbit if that fails:

The problem is due to an AMD OpenGL bug. It looks for atiogl64.dll in Windows\System32 but no such file exists. I read that atio6axx.dll is the 64-bit version of atioglxx.dll. So I copied Windows\System32\atio6axx.dll to Windows\System32\atiogl64.dll To do this, open CMD [Type] cd /d C:/Windows/System32 [Press Enter] [Type] copy atio6axx.dll atiogl64.dll [Press Enter] It should say 1 File(s) copied. That should work.

ok I have a huge problem now. I read your comments about having an integrated video card and it reminded me that I replaced my video card (from nvidia to AMD) a while ago so I looked up in my uninstall programs list and saw that I still had a bunch of nvidia drivers and software on my computer so I tried to uninstall them thinking maybe there was a conflict or something like I thought you were hinting at. That was not a good idea. When i restarted my computer things are not working properly. I can't run any games, some just close instantly when they start up, others give me an error that direct draw could not start. My screen saver does not work anymore, it just says that there are no Direct3d drivers installed. What happened????

I currently have an AMD graphics card and no integrated graphics card to my knowledge. Nothing show up in device manager except my AMD card. I tried to update drivers through device manager and through AMD and Nvidias website but they all say I am up to date. I am really worried, my computer just not working, help!

update! I tried to reinstall the nvidia drivers I thought I uninstalled without success. Every time I installed them an error came up at the end that they were not installed properly, so I gave up on that.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled my AMD video card drivers. This worked well. I am able to launch games again, my screen saver works again and the original problem I started this thread about is gone and I am able to launch rome II.

So this is great. There still seems to be a loose end on my computer. In my device manager I have an entry called "other devices" and if I expand that it shows a 'SM Bus Controller' with a little yellow triangle ! sign on it. This thing has no driver, no identification at all (like in the properties or whatever). I am thinking this is what I uninstalled when I uninstalled the nvidia drivers/software. Is there anything to be done about this? Do you know what it is? I dont even know what to look for on the nvidia site to get new drivers for this. again there is no indetifying info on the device properties.

The SMBus is part of the motherboard - and the manufacturer's website should have appropriate drivers for it (possibly labelled 'Chipset drivers' or similar seemingly unrelated name)
Have you tired deleting those drivers while in Safe Mode, and allowing them to reinstall on the reboot to Normal Mode?

NoeIDE is correct, SMBus will most likely be taken care of by the motherboard chipset drivers. I would still try to get rid of the nvidia drivers...even if it breaks the video, reinstalling your ATI drivers should fix it...

Were it me, I would uninstall everything nvidia and ATI, use something like cleaner or driverfusion to make sure everything is gone, then reinstall the ATI drivers. But...if it is working good, and you are happy with it, you could also just mark the thread solved and be done with it.

Deek

BTW, sorry it took so long, I'd bet if we started with a driver reinstall, it would have been fixed. We did fix a bunch of other problems so, at least that is a plus.
