MagicJack

It is plugged into the wall. Connecting to the computer is very difficult in my setup. Connecting it to the computer also uses a LOT of
computer power. I am going to look for connections so I can update it from the computer.
I hope I don't have to get a new one. Trying to connect a new MagicJack so I can keep the current account and the 5 years I already paid
for looks like a pain and the support is very poor.

t is plugged into the wall.
So how is it getting power from the wall? How is it connected to the wall? The wall just has a regular phone jack that's not active....correct? So I have no clue how you are getting service for it. They were specifically designed to work with the PC via USB port.

There is an adapter that plugs into the wall for Internet and Power.
I received a call today and it was very good quality. My next thought is the computer was off during this call.
I will have it on and try to get a call from a son.

Tonight was very interesting. The computer was in sleep for 5 hours. Received a call that had no one there. Called back
and the line was broken up again. Hung up and turned off the computer and dialed again. This time the line was clear.
How would, except through the router, the phone and computer interfere with each other in this case?
This is still weird even though I do seem able to clear it up.

Since you've seemed to locate the interference with the router when both units are on, perhaps change the ports where the computer and the MagicJack are plugged in so they are in different ports and separated. You might want to try a new ethernet cable too.

How would I change the ports? The router has 4 USB connections and the computer is #1 and MagicJack is #3.
The router is connected to the Modem to the Internet.
Wireless Network Watcher shows ...0.100 for MagicJack and ...0.102 for the computer and ...0.1 for the router.

The router has 4 USB connections
Not ethernet connections? What brand and model router do you own?

The router connects to the modem and it is separate from the 4 ethernet LAN ports. It is generally a yellow port and says internet or WAN.
The four ethernet ports are LAN ports. One can go bad.
Move the MagicJack from port #3 to port #4 as a start and see if you still get interference.

I'm also reading that the adapter that plugs into the wall for the MagicJack is not great. However since your MJ seems to work okay as long as the computer is off, that probably is not the issue.

Tp-Link AC1750 Archer C7 V2. I have just moved the MagicJack to #4. No calls so far. I have a message to Tp-Link about
a “Port Triggering”. It mentions "
Some applications require multiple connections, like Internet
games, video conferencing, Internet telephoning and so on. Port Triggering is used for some of
these applications that cannot work with a pure NAT router. " I don't know if this applies to MagicJack and there support if poor.

The yellow ports are ethernet ports, not USB ports. Since you haven't changed the router and it was working perfectly with your MagicJack, I don't think you have to worry about port triggering since you didn't use it previously.

You said
After a power outage I lost incoming conversations. I reset the MagicJack...
Power outages can cause damage.
Have you tried looked into getting a new wall unit that the MagicJack plugs into? (#4 below)

Have you replaced the cabling between the MagicJack and the phone? Between the wallplug and the router?

Do you use a USB extension cable?

Explain what you did to "reset" the MagicJack.

You are correct on the router port connections. The MagicJack was powered down, pulled from wallplug, for 30sec to reset it. There are
2 phones connected. Cap-Tel and AT&T. Both work. I moved the MagicJack to #4 on the router. I made 3 calls and
the connection was acceptable using the AT&T phone. There are NO extension cables to MagicJack, Computer, Router
or Modem.
I just received a message from TP-LINK. They said Port Forwarding would do nothing in this case.

And those 3 calls were made while the computer was on?

When I say replace cable. I meant the ethernet cable that goes from the MagicJack device to port #4 on your router.
There are NO extension cables to MagicJack, Computer, Router
I said nothing about extension cables. I'm talking about ethernet cables. You have to have an ethernet cable from the MagicJack to the router. You have to have an ethernet cable from the computer to the router. And you have a phone wire connecting the MagicJack to a phone.

"Do you use a USB extension cable?" That is what I interpret your previous comment to refer to. I will scrounge and see if I have another
ethernet cable to try.
Yes, the computer was on when I called. One son calls this afternoon and I will leave the computer on to see if incoming calls have gotten better since moving to #4.
I just found a DATA CABLE CAT.5e. EIA/TIA 568B UTP 24AWG 4 pairs AWM PVC. The previous is written on the cable. I am wondering if the 4 pairs could be a problem.

1. Cable won't connect. It partially plugs in but the phones aren't active. Error code on the AT&T.
Strange. Yesterday we received a call from Illinois which was cellular with BAD connection. So bad they sent e-mail instead.
Right after that call we received a call from here in town which was clear. In both cases the computer was off.
It looks this time as if certain cells are causing the problem. How would they be different?

On the cable, what does "partially plugs in" mean? You should be able to lightly insert it and hear a "click". Then there are either green or orange lights around the outside of the plugs where they plug in that should blink rapidly when you plug it in. If you get no lights, you don't have it plugged in correctly.

This kind of cable?

They are more like the rj11. They only connected part way. Thought I heard a click, but no action at the magicjack. I will try again and wait longer in case resets are in process. Flashing lights would certainly be different than the current cabling. The original looks more like
rj45.

I tried the 5E cable again. This time I waited and MagicJack connected. Don't know if it will make a difference, but most
likely it is a better cable.
