Hello Go The Power,

1) So, I ran SFCFix.zip sent by you. It seems it fixed 4 out of the 5 corruptions. I ran it again but it seems it has still not fixed the 1 remaining corruption.

2) I ran SFC/ Scannow

3) I ran SURT tool, in the log file, there were many repairs and 4 corruptions relating security update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7. I downloaded this update from microsoft download website and put it in the directory %systemroot%\CheckSur\packages and then re-ran SURT tool. It seems corruption related to Internet explorer 10 security update have been fixed now.

4) However, it seems still 1 corruption that you sent as part of SFCFIX.zip file is still not fixed. Not sure why.
5) I have attached CBS folder.

Thanks again for helping me out on this. :) :)

So, what are the next steps other than trying to fix that 1 corruption which didn't get fix last time.

I am thinking once that is fixed, I will try to install all the windows update that are lying uninstalled and hopefully there won't be any blackscreens.

Regarding, hard disk, should I run chkdsk also, apart from running SeaTools DST for windows after a week?
Thanks again.

Hello again Rajiv,

Good work so far :)

Thats a bit odd that SURT is detecting hat file as missing...

  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Hello Go The Power,

Following is the result of running above
Code:
SFCFix version 2.3.0.0 by niemiro.Start time: 2014-08-21 10:12:12.056

After this, I ran SFC/ SCANNOW again

Oddly the result was
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them".

So, what are the next steps other than trying to fix that 1 corruption which didn't get fix last time.

Sorry, I missed this. SeaTools should be enough to determine the health of your HDD :)

Lets try and fix this up again:

Hello Go The Power,

I ran all the steps and then I rebooted my system. I deleted CBS.log file in Windir\logs\cbs\cbs.log.

After deleting cbs.log file (I deleted so that you can get a relatively clean i.e. uncluttered cbs.log file), I re-ran all the steps above to generate a fresh copy of cbs.log file:
1) Applied your SFCFix.zip fix
2) Ran SFC/ Scannow
3) Copied CBS.log file to desktop and attaching it for your reference.

Following is result of SFCFix. It says it failed to trace 1 component.

Please advise. Thanks a lot !!

hello Rajiv,

Thanks for that. The last file I was able to locate now:
Code:
[1: 2] C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-i..-optional.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_10.2.9200.16521_en-us_b41defe19d893548\iexplore.exe.mui

Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~en-US~10.2.9200.16521.Internet-Explorer-x86

Same as before, please drag and drop SFCFix.zip onto SFCFix, and post the results.

Then run SFC /SCANNOW and SURT again.

Once the above has finished please run cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt" and attach to this thread -> then attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

hopefully this fixes the last corruption :)

Dear Alex,
Thanks so much for helping me on this :)

1) I ran SFC.zip that you sent
2) I ran SFC/Scannow......after a long time, I saw no integrity violations :)
3) I ran SURT
Following is SFCFix.txt and attached are CheckSur and cbs.txt.

Once you confirm that all corruptions are fixed, I think next step would be to run windows update ( I have 15 important updates that I have not been able to install). Because after installing and rebooting, I used to get a black screen with just a cursor and not being able to login to windows. I had to do system restore to be able to log onto windows. Do you think this should be the next step?

One additional thing - I forgot to mention for last 1.5 months, I have not been able to boot up my system in safe mode. When I run
safe-mode, after processing all the drivers, instead of booting into safe mode, I get the same black screen with a mouse cursor again. Whether I tried installing windows update or not had no effect on safe mode. I could never boot into safe mode for last 1 months. All this time, I have been able to boot into normal mode.
Thank You!

Hello Rajiv :)

Ah that look's a lot better now :)

Lets try Windows Updates and see what happens :)

Does it just freeze with the black screen and cursor? or does it boot back into 'Normal Windows' after a certain amount of time?

While booting into safe-mode, it used to freeze with a black screen and cursor. Only way to move forward at that point was to power down laptop, using power button.

But all this is history now. I have an amazing news for you! Everything is working fine now. :dance:I just completed installing all the windows updates. There was no black screen after installing windows update. I am also able to boot into safe mode now. Seems all these issues were being caused by windows files corruptions.

Solve the underlying disease and all the symptoms of problems will disappear!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH ...YOU HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND PATIENT IN SOLVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS. I highly appreciate this forum and the committed people associated with it.

Just regarding my hard disk -- I think I will just run SeaTools DST for widows this weekend and will report what I see.

Hello Rajiv,

That is fantastic news, and you are more than welcome :) Its always nice to hear that the system has been fixed up.

Hopefully on the weekend when you run SeaTools nothing bad appears.

Alex
