Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2015!

I was outside when it went past, quite spectacular. It looked just like a star, except it moved accross the sky very quickly.

...since my family are Polish, we celebrate on Christmas Eve anyway since that's what we do. So we have a Polish Christmas on the 24th and an English Christmas on the 25th! Double the Christmas :)

Traditionally, the meal begins just after the first star appears in the sky. The youngest child is to stand outside and wait for it - then to rush inside as soon as he or she spots it so the meal may begin!

I suspect your celebration is similar to the traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve celebration. It is 12 courses, symbolizing the 12 apostles. The first course is kutya, to remember Ukrainian ancestors who first cultivated wheat. I did my best to follow the tradition for Jerry but nowhere matched what my mother-in-law had been able to do (although I did get pretty good with borscht and holubtsi).

I put this together a few years ago:

Another Christmas has come and gone.

I hope that everyone enjoyed their Christmas Day!

Certainly did John...

Sun, sand, surf, good friends, splendid food, sunny skies... stimulating conversations.
We certainly get plenty of sun here.

I love the cold and the snow, it's been snowing for a few hours now. It's very rare for it to snow on Boxing Day in England; in fact I can't remember it snowing on BD before.

Aussie Christmas' sure do sound better than the ones we get!

We are blessed with a sunny climate Patrick.
Suits me as anything under 75F is "freezing" by my standards...

Come visit us one day. (at Chrismas time)

I was always amazed at the residents in Southern California (Palm Springs desert area) that prepared for those "chilly" forecasted times.

I watched in amazement at a clothing store one day as people were literally fighting over gloves, hats and scarves because a cold spell (in the 50s F) was to hit the area for a few nights.

It really is a sight to see people bundled up in ski/snow/cold weather clothing and gear when it is 50F outside.

You will usually find quite a few people around here in shorts if temps are 50F or above (some even colder).

But still, Jan - I'll take the warm 70s you have over the cold 20s we currently have any day of the week - especially as I get older. No global warming here - to me it just seems to get colder every year!
