Dev channel update to 88.0.673.0 is live

The move to major build 88 includes the first release for Linux to the Dev channel. Details are available at Introducing Microsoft Edge preview builds for Linux.

Added features:
  • Added the ability to take a screenshot of a webpage and add ink to it.
  • Added extra error information to tabs when they crash due to sandbox conflict.
  • Improved Single Sign-On support on Mac.
  • Added a management policy to control the Edge Shopping Assistant. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t been made yet.
  • Added a management policy to configure how URLs are copied from Edge. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Added a management policy to prevent the automatic redirection of incompatible websites from Internet Explorer to Edge. Note that this policy specifically prevents the installation of a component in Internet Explorer required for redirection to occur, and updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Added a management policy to control the automatic redirection of incompatible websites from Internet Explorer to Edge. Note that this redirection is enabled by default, and updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Added a management policy to hide the informational dialog that’s shown the first time an automatic redirection from an incompatible website in Internet Explorer to Edge occurs. Note that hiding this popup also disables the automatic import of user data from Internet Explorer to Edge and updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Deprecated the management policy to allow WebDriver to Override Incompatible Policies.

  • Adding support for Caret Mode to PDFs.
  • Added a warning dialog when closing a Web Capture that’s been inked on but not saved.
  • Added support for enhanced copy and paste on Mac.

Added Features:

  • Added the ability for Edge to proactively find and show coupons while shopping. Note that this feature is not available for work and school accounts.
  • Rolled out support for automatic deduplication of favorites more broadly. Now, deduplication will occur every time favorites are synced to the device.
  • Added the ability to take a screenshot of the entire webpage using Web Capture.
  • Added settings to the Pinning Wizard to generate more default suggestions.
  • Added support in the IE mode sitelist to be able to specify schemes (http/https) alongside the host and path.
  • Added new management policies to configure whether or not Sleeping Tabs are Enabled, to configure the Timeout until they go to sleep, and to configure the list of URLs that are Blocked from going to sleep. Note that updates to administrative templates or documentation may not be available yet.
  • Enabled support for the management policy to Block External Extensions from Chromium.
  • Updated icons across Edge to be more consistent with the Fluent design scheme.

  • Improved the History menu to be able to have an icon next to the address bar, to show all the tabs available in recently closed windows, and to be pinnable as a side pane like the recently improved Favorites menu.   • Added the ability for Edge to generate new passwords.

  • Enabled the creation of text notes in PDFs on non-Windows platforms.

  • Improved the layout of the Cookies and Site Permissions Settings.
  • Added a management policy on Mac OS to Override the Update Policy normally used on that OS. Note that updates to administrative templates or documentation may not be available yet.
  • Enabled support for the management policies to Allow Legacy TLS Protocols in Web RTC, set a Printer Type Deny List, and change Intranet Redirect Behavior from Chromium.

  • Added the ability to run an on-demand scan for leaked passwords from the Passwords Settings page.
  • Added a website permission to Cookies and Site Data for pre-loading websites.
  • Added an option to have downloaded PDFs open in the default PDF reader instead of Edge.
  • Added keyboard shortcut information to the Share, Copy, and Paste Settings page.
  • Enabled work from Chromium to reduce battery usage by background tabs.
  • Enabled support for management policies from Chromium for Printing Allowed Background Graphics Modes and Printing Background Graphics Default.

Note: This will be the last scheduled release to Dev, Beta, and Stable for the year (small fixes will be published if necessary). Canary will continue through the holidays.

Added features:
  • Added an indicator to show when a tab has been muted because the underlying system audio has been muted.
  • Added an option to Settings to disable downloading Edge updates over metered connections. Note that this is currently only available on Windows 10.
  • Added a Setting to disable the F12 entry point to the Dev Tools.
  • Added support for forcing popup windows into new tabs instead in Kiosk mode.
  • Enabled support for the management policies from Chromium to Enable Basic Auth Over HTTP, and that Target Blank Implies No Opener.

  • Added an option to Share, Copy and Paste Settings to disable enhanced link copying for links on webpages.
  • Added filtering capability to Price Comparison.

  • Improved the Cookies In Use dialog to show more information about a given cookie.
  • Added a management policy to manage the Smart Actions Block List, which prevents certain context menu actions from being available, and for Windows Hello For HTTP Auth Enabled to control whether or not the basic credential prompt appears for NTLM or Negotiate. Note that updates to administrative templates or documentation may not be available yet.
  • Enabled support for the management policy from Chromium to configure the Managed Configuration Per Origin for websites installed as apps.

  • Added options for a simplified right-click menu for PDFs. Note that actual changes to the right-click menu are still being rolled out, so these settings may not be functional yet.
  • Added management policies for Quick View Office Files Enabled, which controls whether or not Office files can be opened directly in Edge instead of being downloaded, and for Application Guard Favorites Sync Enabled to control whether or not Application Guard windows should have access to the same set of Favorites as non-Application Guard windows. Note that updates to administrative templates or documentation may not have occurred yet.

  • Added the ability to start typing to search as soon as the favorites and history menus are open and loaded.

  • Enabled Single Sign-On for Mac, fixing an issue where certain websites can’t login.
  • Improved messaging when certain permissions are restricted when viewing a protected PDF.
  • Deprecated the management policy to Enable Native Window Occlusion in favor of the newly-added policy to Enable Window Occlusion. Note that updates to administrative templates or documentation may not have occurred yet.
  • Enabled support for the management policy to control SSL Error Override Allowed For Origins from upstream Chromium.

  • Finished rolling out the new Downloads popup menu.
