Multiple issues with Windows update

Hello, I hope you can help! I am running windows 7 x64, current version with all updates installed (except these)....as a side note I cannot update to IE11 as well. I continue to get the follow errors for these specific updates. I have tried running the MS fix utils and tried turning off antivirus and also downloading the standalone updater versus going though Windows Update to no avail. These are the trouble updates:

1) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3008923)
**This update produces error code 80070057

2) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2992611)
**This update produces error code 8E5E03FA

3) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3003743)
**This update produces error code 80070490

4) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3011780)
**This update produces error code 8024AFFF

When troubleshooting Windows Update issue it is also best to first have a look for corrupt files, your CBS logs are not showing any signs of any corruptions.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

One file has been repaired, did you want to try Windows update again? If updates are still failing please upload the following:

Windows Update Log

  1. Click on the Start button -> Inside the search box copy and paste the following command
    cmd /c copy %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.txt"
  2. Please go to your desktop and attach WindowsUpdate.txt to your next post
Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive

Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.


Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). If you have a Microsoft Account, OneDrive could be a good choice: https://onedrive.live.com/, but any other will do just fine. Make sure to set the file as publicly accessible

SFCFix script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Go to your desktop and right click on the background -> Select New -> Text Document -> Name this file SFCFixScript.txt.
  3. Open up SFCFixScript.txt and copy all of the following text inside the code box below and paste it into SFCFixScript.txt.

Please run SFC scannow again and post a new log.

Regarding re-running SFC /scannow...when I try to run that at the C:\ I get the following message:

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
