Multiple Windows updates failed, Regedit corrupt and shut down extremely slow

Hi,

Thanks for reporting the results. Before doing any fixing we need to make sure the machine is working properly that's why I ask for the tests.

Lets work on fixing the problems detected by SUR...

Hi,

Thanks for the log. Now run the SUR tool again and post the new CheckSur.log please.

Hi,

The log is clean, that is good :smile9:

System File Checker
- open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
- type or Copy & Paste the following:
sfc /scannow
- wait for the scan to complete and let me know the result

Clean because of your help - Thank YOU!

SFC verification 100% complete and no integrity violations found. Guess that is good news too.

Having run the other tests with SSD software and such, as well as these ones, do you believe the Regedit may have also restored itself and is no longer corrupt?

Yes. Now can you try to install only one of the updates offered by Windows Update.

If they fail to install collect the c:\Windows\Logs\cbs\CBS.log first copy the file to the Desktop and then zip it. Share the file like you did with the others.

Where did you get the information that there is a problem with the registry?

The SUR tool checks the registry part related to the Windows Updates, system files, etc. and it no longer reports problems there.

Edit: On the list of Windows Updates if you see some labeled "Preview of..." skip/hide them, try only to install other updates related with Security or Monthly Rollups.

I was just asking about the Registry because right at the begining, before I contacted you, I could not back-up my Regedit file because it was corrupt.
If you are telling me that the SUR tool now confirms that the Registry is fine, then I won't worry about my Registry anymore.

As for the updates, since I was successful in installing the most recent updates over the weekend, is it worth still going back to install older Windows updates? I am asking because I don't know if the new Win updates build on past code or whether it only addresses new issues.

How did you try to backup the registry?

What you need to do is force windows to search for new updates, Windows knows what updates needs to be installed or not, if an old update is offered is because its needed for your computer and that the most recent updates installed didn't replace them.

I did the backup of my harddrive using a software called Unstoppable Copier by Roadkil. In there it identified one corrupt file which was Regedit. Hence my comments about it being corrupt.

I went back over missed updates and some were located on my harddrive and others not needed for whatever reason. I also checked just now for Win updates and have successfully installed 2 (one important and one optional). I checked again and no further updates identified.

Is that it then? Am I good to go?

Thanks for the advice SleepyDude.

I really apprecaite all your help.
