[SOLVED] Need help with random BSOD's (Packard Bell EasyNote ML61)

It's my pleasure!

I hope we won't have to meet again under BSOD circumstances, so happy holidays to you as well!

Regards,

Patrick

Welcome, and thanks for the wishes :dsmile:

Does you name refer to the fancy pants game?

I didnt realize this thread had gone over to page 2. Not my intention to ignore you after all the help. Sorry!

Growing up and watching American movies, i always liked the way it was used as an insult. It stuck with me, and when the internet came along it felt like a great alias. Loving the Fancy Pants Adventures though. The music is top notch :)

Update on the BSOD issue. As far as i can tell it is solved. No BSOD's since your help.

However... A small but annoying side effect came along. When at home, i use a USB laptop and mouse. Since the fix i get the "device connected/disconnected" sound and the mouse freezes for a few seconds. After some testing i've ruled out the keyboard and USB ports as culprits. It seems that windows has some kind of issue with the mouse now (which is an ancient Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0A from around 2003).
I've been searching the net to try and solve it, but i'm having a hard time finding any good information on what might be wrong. Do you have any idea in what general area the problem might be?

Have you looked in Device Manager, and checked for any yellow warning triangles?

If you notice any triangles, then please expand the appropriate section by clicking the small triangle next to the section name, and then right-clicking the device with the problem, and selecting Properties. Post the description of the problem.

If you don't notice any problems, then please select View, and then Show Hidden Devices. Then repeat the above procedure.

Yo Robot!

I've got two yellow triangles. They were there before i approached you with the BSOD problem though. I think theyre related to the laptop mousepad and some other manufacturer-specific thing.

Either way i'll post two screenshots of my device manager below, with freely translated text.

Right below the "data" tab, the tab with the small question mark sais "other units".
The two units with yellow triangles sais "basic system devices" (my translation)

PS. Windows update does not recommend any updates for those devices as far as i can tell. DS.

PPS. Not sober, so i'll give you DEATH - Politicians In my Eyes (Death - Politicians in my eyes - YouTube) . DDS.

Yo,

Noticed my previous post wasn't conclusive...
When i right-click the units with yellow warning triangles and click the "more information" button, it just says "unknown unit".

However, the problem has intensified a bit. The USB mouse freezes perhaps once every 5 seconds, and eventually stops responding. The trackpad works just fine while this is happening.
One time when the USB mouse was frozen i got a yellow triangle in the "HID tree" on "Microsoft Hardware USB Mouse". The information read "the device could not be started", or something along those lines (i was not sober and did not print screen). Unfortunately i havent been able to recreate that scenario again, but i'll keep working on it.

I guess it's a possibility that the mouse finally gave up though.

Hey!

I think i have managed to solve the issue. Ill post what i did below in case anyone else happen to have the same issue.

I installed the drivers for the SD card reader, but it didnt change the situation. It seems something happened with the USB cards/drivers when we fixed the BSOD issue. After some research online i found some tips that did not seem too promising, but did not seem risky and was easy to execute.
1. Uninstall the USB devices through the device manager.
2. Shut down the laptop.
3. Pull the power cord and remove the battery.
4. Leave it a while (i left it over night).
5. Insert battery and power cord, then restart.
6. Problem solved.

The BSOD issue is now gone and the mouse works. So I want to thank you for the help and support!
Didnt mean to spam you with unrelated support questions about USB devices and mouse issues, but thought perhaps the information adds to your knowledge base.

Again, happy holidays and thank you for the time. Also, i hope you get nice presents.

Thanks for the update fancypants, sorry wasn't able to reply any sooner. It's good to know that you managed to find a solution, and was able to post it for us, it will help other users reading the same thread :dsmile:

When you posted the video about Death, at first I thought you were referring to the Death Metal band called Death:

Spirtual Healing is one my favorite songs.

Welcome, and Merry Christmas :grin1:
