Actually I just had a thought - would I be able to restore these files myself In the future (if this happens again) if I followed the "create a System Repair Disk" wizard in my window 7? Or is there any other idea you would suggest to accomplish this fix myself in the future?

It would be very hard for you to do that because we use specialized tools and go through extensive training in order to learn how to use them.
