New Build for 2023

That would be great, with 70+ VM's I'm running out of resources... 😁

Why don't you try hosting some VMs on your VMs?

Slow startup times - general problem with AM5 and DDR5, but if I can find a replacement that's known to have fast startup times that would be preferred.

It seems the fastest motherboards are from asrock and gigabyte:

You can find here Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER boot time is about 24 seconds versus the 47 seconds of yours.
Unfortunately, he didn't compare asroks MBs.

I'm definitely considering one of the asrock boards based on reviews - anecdotally they seem to have a much faster startup time.

I'll also take a look at their ATX boards from ASRock, as they're more likely to be in stock. The Gigabyte boards EATX boards also had some reviews mentioning issues, but the ASRock E-ATX boards seem pretty hard to find new.

Thanks @xilolee - appreciate the help!

I found an X670E ASRock Taichi in the eBay results that was listed as New from a reputable seller - I'll sell my previous board once I go through the RMA process and should be able to get a chunk of the cost back as well.

The ASRock boards had the best reviews and reported boot times - but I'll report back once it's installed!

Not having to reset my Ethernet adapter every time I download a Steam game would be a nice improvement... The boot times I don't mind as much, although it was a shock after moving from the much faster boot time DDR4 systems.

...and installed :)

Motherboard arrived today, and I've swapped it over to the Taichi.

So far -
- POST screen is now displayed on boot (previous motherboard wasn't outputting video until Windows was loading)
- Fans are much much quieter - I'd previously set them on the lowest setting available on the MSI motherboard, but either my setup was wrong, or the minimum is just much faster than the ASRock. Probably just an issue with my fan curves, but either way the ASRock defaults are much better.
- Bootup time is significantly faster - ~10 seconds vs the 50-60 seconds before.

Ethernet connection is stable, and it's not cutting out like it did with the MSI board, but it is much slower on first usage. Will check I have the right drivers installed and maybe try on Wifi as well, as there might be other factors (nothing is downloading in the background in resource monitor, but maybe something else is going on with my connection or Steam's connection). On the plus side it's not cutting out and seems more stable.

Will run some more tests and flash the BIOS over the next few days to get the most out of it. Hopefully this resolves a few of my longstanding issues though.

A driver update for Killer LAN adapter direct from Intel's site seems to have resolved the Ethernet speed issue. Ethernet is now back in the expected speed range (~900Mbps download on Steam), and so far seems stable.

The driver issue might be one that catches other users out - for the X670E ASRock Taichi, the latest Killer LAN driver that ASRock's auto-updater tries to install is from 2022, and is the same old driver listed on their website. Going to Intel's site directly has much newer drivers for the same adapters available.
