So I basically keep all of my media files on a separate drive. I do have LOTS of programs that take LOTS of time to install. Around 30 games, and a great majority of the Adobe Suite. That said, I'm fairly certain there's no way to back those files up in a way that would not require reinstallation of the programs should something go wrong. If I am mistaken, please enlighten me. If not, then let us proceed.
 
Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
type in diskpart
select disk 0
create volume simple size=100


Afterwards, if successful, run list part and compare it to the image in the thread (note the system partition). If it exists, do the following:

select partition 3
(replace 3 with the number of your newly created partition)
SET ID=c12a7328-f81f-11d2-ba4b-00a0c93ec93b


Reboot and updates should work.
