I didn't do all those things: I just duplicated the file and renamed the copy.
But I didn't reboot yet, it probably won't work like you are saying right now.

" I didn't do all those things "...........strange , I had no permission , so I had to change permission to Administrators !Changed TrustedInstaller to Administrators ( owner )
May I ask you how you could do these things , without permission ?? ( who is the owner of your folder ?)
Im thinking of "permissions-problem "..........

I just copied the file.
I'm already the administrator.
I have your same issue with that icon, but it's not a problem for me: I wasn't aware of It, neither.

" same issue with that icon "............wow, so Im not the only one with this Edge-icon !
Still searching for solution , Edge works fine , with pdf also , it opens when I choose the white (!) Edge-icon.
Im on a new Win10 (2004) and I just want to make it 100%...........

For future travelers:

According to user @Jenae, this is the proper way to clean the icon cache.

Below is a direct copy of one of his posts.

Go to search and type:- cmd

Next press the ctrl +shift+enter keys on your keyboard an elevated cmd prompt will open.

Copy and paste all the below cmds into the command prompt window, press enter.

ie4uinit.exe -show

taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F (your desktop will go blank)

DEL /A /Q "%localappdata%\IconCache.db"

DEL /A /F /Q "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*"

shutdown /p

(your computer will shutdown completely, after this Restart your computer

" the proper way to clean the icon cache " ..........tried , no luck !
Looks like there are troubles with the path to the icon , its shown in ; ( key) Application ApplicationIcon; @{Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_44.19041.1.0_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe?ms-resource://Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge/Files/Assets/MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.png} ..............the question is ; why (?) does this png-file not showup in contextmenu , next to Microsoft Edge ( please, have a look at the picture ,previous posts !)

Have you tried installing the Chromium-based version of Edge? It may install the missing image for you.

As a side note, I would definitely consider switching to the Chromium-based version regardless, there's quite a few "modern" HTML/CSS features which the HTML-based version does not support correctly.

Yes , will try.........its just impossible to repair the Legacy Edge , icons are still missing , taskbar-icon also invisible , only black spot !

Yes, installed latest Edge , works fine !
Icon-problem is solved .............how can we uninstall/delete the old Edge , takes a lot of space , still present in the "Standard Apps " also . I can choose between 3 browsers , one of them ( old Edge) is replaced by the new Edge !

You cannot uninstall original Edge, nor would you want to, as a great deal of Windows 10 screen rendering is handled by the EdgeHTML engine.

Once you get the update to which I made reference original Edge will be hidden from you and be inaccessible. It will be as though it is not present. But, it is present "under the hood" because it must remain so for Windows 10 to function as designed. They'll probably eventually phase out EdgeHTML, but that's going to be a long, slow process if it happens at all.

I understand , still I want to remove the third browser-option , which is replaced by new Edge ! Look at my picture, please , you see what I mean !
Old (legacy) does not work at all , so why not remove this third, not working option............?
I have a tool which completely removes old Edge, its a bat-file , do you have another workaround ??

You can't, period!

The last option is NEW EDGE. Soon it will be the only Edge.

The first entry is original Edge and until the Windows Update is applied that officially installs new Edge as the default Windows browser, you cannot remove it. It will remove itself in due time.
