Hi all

Hoping someone can help as I'm at my wits end, been dealing with this crash related to nvlddmkm.sys for over a year. At any time my pc will suddenly lose signal and go completley unresponsive (much more common when gaming though), sometimes it will go days without doing it then gets really bad again. Pressing the caps lock and number lock etc will not even work and I have to reboot the pc. It happened 3 times just yesterday. I have used DDU multiple times to wipe the drivers and reinstall, I have reinstalled windows as I thought this was because the install was on a dying SSD, I have used memtest to test my ram and came back fine. I have found online a way to extend TDRDELAY in registry editor, and applied these settings. I then played a game and everything seemed ok however I am now getting a new BSOD (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133)). This is a new error but says nvlddmkm.sys is still responsible.

Hi!

Try furmark 1.39 for twenty minutes.
Then try also furmark 2.7.
And of course keep us informed about the results obtained.

Just ran the tool, it ran for about 2 mins and reached 77c and then the system totally locked up. Didn't BSOD, just became unresponsive to anything. Right before it crashed the GPU fans slowed right down and screen froze for a brief second, then sped back up for a second and completley crashed and slowed back down.

System randomly rebooted today with a new error in event viewer with source called WHEA-Logger. Again no BSOD though.

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 0

The details view of this entry contains further information.

Was thinking this was a GPU issue, now not so sure.

It seems you got these bugchecks:
Read More:
In the event viewer, two whea-logger event id 18:
- A fatal hardware error has occurred. - Reported by component: Processor Core. - Error Source: Machine Check Exception - Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error - Processor APIC ID: 3
- Like above, APIC ID: 11

You could try to stress test your CPU with prime95: CPU STRESS testing: Mersenne.org Prime95 and Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT)

Number of cores to torture test: 6
Use hyperthreading: ticked
Small FFTs
(if it is selectable)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Max. Operating Temperature (Tjmax): 95°C (degrees Celsius = 203 degrees Fahrenheit)

Check if the temperature stays below 95 degrees.
If it gets there and stays there, stop the test.
If it lasts an hour without reaching Tjmax and without showing any problems, move on to the Large FFTs test.
If it lasts an hour without reaching Tjmax and without showing any problems, move on to the Blend test.
Three hours in total (one hour for each test).

What program did you use to test the memory?
How many passes were performed?

In the hardware tutorial sub-forum, you can find four different guides: Windows Memory diagnostic tool, hcidesign memtest, the open-source memtest86+, passmark memtest86.
If you have used one of the four software mentioned, try a different one.
We usually recommend to reach at least eight passes.

So this had gotten so bad that every time I went to play a game it would happen within 15 minutes of playing. Just did a clean boot and it didn't happen this time! Now I am confused!

Well yes, indeed some software can be problematic.
For example, I see that nzxt cam and intel driver and support assistant are installed.
Maybe you could uninstall these two and try again with normal boot.

Funny you should say that, I have just reinstated a few services which I use the most and done a reboot. However I am going to go through my C drive and remove any software that I don't use. I normally use both these services for system monitoring and wifi and bluetooth drivers respectively. But I will remove those as well I think.

Hmm. Behaviour changing. Got a 133 DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION again. I'll attach the dump below. Then while I was typing this lost signal and locked up again. Had to hold power to shut down as usual. Rebooted and the screen refused to show anything but the system was fully responsive. Logged in and heard case fans respond to login as well as number lock light respond and LEDs react and set themselves as per software. Shut down the system, switched back on a picture came up fine. Thinking most certainly a GPU issue now?

EDIT: while it refused to show anything I checked the GPU for power and fans were spinning.
