Any advice how to prevent this happening? We are not removing/ installing windows components on this server, it runs as it is, only thing we do, is the patches every month. I would like to be able to prevent these issues happening. Would you have an advice?

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the update installed without any issues this time.

There are several reasons for these kind of corruptions, like system crashes, harddrive and/or memory corruptions. But it is difficult to ascertain what the exact cause was. If this is a physical server I would start with a memory test and an HDD health check.
