I believe that there is one story in the world, and only one. . . .
Humans are caught—in their lives, in their thoughts, in their hungers and ambitions, in their avarice and cruelty, and in their kindness and generosity too —in a net of good and evil. . . .
There is no other story.
A man, after he has brushed off the dust and chips of his life, will have left only the hard, clean questions:
Was it good or was it evil?
Have I done well—or ill?
Look clearly at life, and not just your own,
how much is reality, and how much is unknown.
It's not measured in beauty, possessions or wealth,
but measured in consciousness and judged by yourself.
Do you wonder if this is your chance,
to examine the future and all that might last? Material things just gather the dust,
whereas thought becomes life force and this is the thrust.
A look in the mirror at the start of each day,
a vision of emptiness ...but a nice résumé.
It's all in the cards ~ but its not yet a deck.
sit back and slow down, take the time to reflect.
Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around.
You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more.
You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you.
When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement.
They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself.
Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful.
There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are.
The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever.
Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again.
Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all.
A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face.
In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby.
Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you.
You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do.
Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon.
You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible.
You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you.
You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end.
Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”
"people are notoriously bad at identifying what we want. And what we do want is influenced heavily by what we know — our expectations are constrained by our experience."
Not a famous quote and not historical in any fashion. Just something I picked up today while reading this article .
I thought it particularly apropos, not necessarily because it addresses a particular item of "tech" but more in a general sense as to what's going on in the world and more specifically why I need a pill before entering the Breakfast Cereal aisle at my local Super Market. :smile9:
“Look again at that dot.
That's here. That's home. That's us.
On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was,
lived out their lives.
The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines,
every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization,
every king and peasant,
every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child,
inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals,
every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader,"
every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--
on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.”

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
