[SOLVED] Server 2012 R2 Std - No Internet, but Chrome Works

Thank you. I have included the reboot directive into my fixlist, so the Server should automatically reboot after the fix. Please test the connectivity after the reboot. Also, it is very late, so I will be going to bed soon. If this does not help, we can resume after I wake up.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Okay, let's see if No add-ons mode improves things:

Start IE11 in No Add-ons mode by running the Run command from the Start menu, and then typing iexplore.exe -extoff into the box.

IE will launch, test the connectivity there...
 
Same result. Keep in mind this issue is bigger than IE. IE is just a symptom. No locally installed app that needs to report home can do so. The only internet based app that works is Chrome, but I don't know why.
 
Yeah everything is 100%. Even this RDS server works fine as an RDS and remote app. It even picks up the mapped Drive GPO, printers, etc. The only thing broken is IE and installed apps that require internet to work.
 
Yes, more times than I care to count. My guess is that they leverage something in Windows in the same way that IE does, thus none of them can resolve the internet.
 
If the environment was virtualized I would just spin up another 2012 R2 and reinstall apps / migrate data, but I don't have that option.
 
I see that the PersistentRoute I removed has been restored. Can you confirm that it was done intentionally by you?

Did you allow some Chinese software access through your Firewall intentionally?

Is there something specific configured on the system what requires a specific firewall rule/port to be open? I'm asking because I'd like to reset Firewall Settings as a test.

If there is, I can just remove those entries...

May I clean the temp files + the recycle bin if there's something in it? (I'm just mentioning it in case there's something important there...)

Does Firefox work?

Once I get the info I need, we shall continue.
 
- I did not restore. Something clearly puts it there.
- The firewall is disabled for domain and public. That said I don't know what those entries are or why they would be needed.
- This is used as an RDS server and IIS is running. Keep that in mind.
- Temp files have already been cleared out numerous time via Ccleaner.
- Firefox is not installed, but I can do that.
 
Much to my surprise, Firefox does NOT work. The first install failed and detected a previous install. I grabbed the offline installer and that installed ok. Has same issues as IE. Chrome still works.

If you don't mind, I would also like to check whether all the services are ok:

Farbar Service Scanner
1. Download Farbar Service Scanner from here, and move it to the Desktop
2. Right-click on FSS.exe > Run as Administrator
3. Checkmark everything, and click Scan

4. Once it finishes, Notepad will open FSS.txt on your Desktop. Copy and paste everything in it in your next reply
