[SOLVED] Server 2016 - Server Manager Add/Remove Roles - Unable to obtain Feature List

Good Morning!
It's been a couple of weeks and I wanted to check back and see how things are going?

Thanks in advance for all your help~

My apologies, didn't catch that. Hope everything is well and I was just checking. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you later in the coming months.

Hello! I've finally found a moment to spare and had a look. Unfortunately, I have some bad news. Your CBS hive appears to be extremely corrupt and cannot be repaired. Your only option is to perform an In-Place upgrade of the Server.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Hey, I appreciate it. I had a feeling it was bad. lol

Re-installing it completely isn't an option, so an In-Place Upgrade? I've really only done migrations and fresh installs on Server 2016. Would you be able to point me in the right direction to get started on this? I need to keep the same version of Windows Server since 2019 isn't a viable option for us right now and compatibility with the software.

Thanks for all your help even with the bad news, it's much appreciated.

Hello!

I wanted to reach out and let you know that I was able to get an old working backup in place before some of the corruption took place, but I can't seem to get Windows Updates to work now.

I keep getting a 0x8007000d Error.

Do you think you could give me a hand?

Any advise you think would help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks~

Hi!

I can try.

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and type in cmd.
2.After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
3. Copy and paste the following into the Command Prompt:

reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS

4. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
5. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
6. Copy and paste KB4480977 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
7. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please attach this to your next reply. It is saved on your desktop named SearchReg.txt.

4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Ok, that one took a while~

I think the last CU that this server installed according to WU is back in March. It updated the Service Stack to the latest one, but wouldn't install the latest CU.
