Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer and then just provide the link in your reply.

Could you please provide the latest copy of your COMPONENTS hive using the instructions above? I'm confident that the issue lies with those jp-JP keys only so I'll search through your COMPONENTS hive and then provide you with one large fix.

There seems to be around 144 Japanese deployment keys with issues. Here's the first set of 20 deployment keys.

Hi,

I've run the script and it ran OK.

do you need me to do send you any more logs or will I wait until all 144 keys have been run?

Really appreciate your help and time on this - many thanks ...

Steve

Don't worry, I've managed to write a program to fix all the missing values for those JP keys. However, the files will probably be missing too so I'll replace them for you in the next SFCFix script.

In the meantime, could you please create a backup of your current COMPONENTS hive and then replace it with the version from my Google Drive? Let me know if there is any issues with accessing it.

Hi,
I've backed up my original COMPONENTS hive and replaced with yours.
Many thanks again for your help,
Steve

Hi,
I meant to ask if you need me to run Windows Update with your again after replacing the COMPONENTS hive and then send on the CBS log ?
Thanks,
Steve

You can try but it will probably crash again and then complain about those missing JP files like it did before. Please find the first batch of files attached.

Hi,
I ran your latest SFCFix.zip and worked OK with no errors,
Thanks again for your time and perseverance with this one!
Steve

Welcome, I'll work on getting a second batch of files for you today.

There's a few missing files which I'll need to find and then they should all be replaced.

Thanks, there's approximately 29 missing files which I don't have the updates installed for, so I'm going to have to spend some time installing the cumulative updates into a different VM.

Really appreciate your time on this one. If it helps the server is only running the HyperV role and is not domain joined. Its mind boggling where all these JA-JP files came from. After I built the server (it was preinstalled Dell), it ran one cumulative update and that was it - none of the subsequent ones installed so maybe that particular update introduced the corrupt Ja-JP language components

At some point, a Japanese language pack must have been installed, only reason I can think of as to why you would have those localised components in your COMPONENTS hive too.

Please find the remaining files attached.

Hi,
I uses your latest SFCFix and it ran with no errors. I then ran Windows Update and it seemed to take longer which is good but got error 0x80070057.
I've attached the CBS log and hopefully it will help pinpoint the errors
Once again many thanks ...
Steve
