Server 2019 - Windows update Error 0x80073712

Run the following command in an elevated prompt and attach "UpdateList.txt" to your next post.

It seems some updates are partially installed, please perform the following steps for a REG search.

  • Open the startmenu and type the command cmd.
  • After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following into the Command Prompt and press enter.

Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.

  • Rename the logfile SearchReg.txt to SearchReg-KB5004947.txt and attach it to your next post.

  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.

  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB5022840 is not installed on this computer.
 
Hi. It just seems stuck at searching for installed updates. I have been running it for 2 hours and nothing new.

Please let it run for an extra hour to see if it will fail and drop an error. In the meantime provide a screenshot of the update history from settings > Update Security > View update history.
 
I did let it spin for 3 more hours but nothing. I have attached the history from add remove programs and from the update history.

  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

I made the Fix but screwed up the logfile (renamed the old log file when the fix was running) And it did not save the logfile.

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
