[SOLVED] Server 2022 Can't install CU - CBS Error HRESULT = 0x800f081f - CBS_E_SOURCE_MISSING

I was hoping that Process Monitor logged all the corruptions, so I could filter them to create one fix. But unfortunately it showed only one component either...

Hopefully we're running out of languages.
It failed again. :)

I've solved some complex Windows Update issues myself in the past, but there's no way I could get to the bottom of this one.

Thanks.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Was updating for an age, but thrown a new error, must be close now. I've zipped up the latest cbs logs and will update on Monday.

Will also try rebooting the server out of hours and trying again.

Have a great weekend.

Good morning. Thought I'd check in on the server this morning, failed with 0x800f0982
Got there a lot quicker though.

Here's SFCFix log and CBS as usual.

Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon!

Another error - more generic this time, an access is denied error.
So rebooted the server over the weekend and went again...

Success. It took it about 4 hours, but completed the CU and now reports no issues or further updates.

Thank you so much for your help. The work you guys do is amazing.

Hi,

You're welcome! And sometimes you'll need to perform a reboot first or disable the (Security) AV-software to avoid an 0x80070005 (access denied) issue.
I will mark this thread as solved...
