that is correct. That's one of the components we had to replace :)

Add Missing Package
1. Click the Start button and type cmd.exe in the search box.
2. Right-click on the cmd that comes up and select Run as administrator.
3. Once you are at the command prompt, copy/paste the following line and hit enter.
pnputil -a C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_wvms_pp.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17114_none_53ef8848c520c395\wvms_pp.inf

Let me know if it says successfully installed. If it does, try installing KB3162835 and attach both CBS.log and setupapi.dev.log if it fails.

3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

I thought i was smart and made the change from 1 to 0 and ran it. the whole entry is now gone. Is there a way to restore the reg key?

Is it an option for you to restore? That would be the quickest way. Please do not modify any scripts I provide because that can be very harmful.

i have never done a windows restore. considering it's from a previous day's backup, what damage would it be if i do not restore and leave this until i can get onsite to replicate the server to vm?
I'm not around for another week so I am reluctant to make such a change and yes, i know deleting the key was a mistake. i thought it was meant to create restore point, not delete any keys... my fault.

my plan in a months time was to convert the physical server to vhd, then move dc to hyperv once it's turned on.
and if the software works from testing, create new vhd running win 2012, add another dc, and reinstall physical dc or leave it alone since the Windows is quite damaged.

It seems like wbadmin was running around the time i made the mistake, meaning a restore could potentially be ok but I'm nervous since I am not physically around in case I cannot reboot the server if it needs a hard reboot to get things going.
I have the option of system state, volume, files etc to choose from.

(this was actually the start of all these issues, i restored the registry and corrupted it)
