[SOLVED] SFC Fails | DISM Fails | SFCFix Crashes | What Now?

I'm not seeing this type of issue with my other hard drives, AFAICT, so I'm hopeful that the issue is with the SSD and not my MoBo or processor...

The replacement SSD is Samsung 860 EVO, 500 GB, perhaps I should think about preparing it for installation.

Yes, the issue is very likely due to the SSD. However, at this point it would be risky to clone it to a new drive because of the corruption. You could try to do that and it may succeed, but it may as well fail.

I was thinking more along the line of using the 2 Feb backup to recover that saved instance to the new Samsung drive, and then install it in place of the OCZ drive. What do you think?

I am not confident that continuing to work with a flakey drive will result in success...

Well, it may not be without corruption; it was, apparently, taken after the OCZ drive began failing, but before the failures became evident. That said, I think starting over with the restored, new, hopefully reliable, SSD is better than continuing to work with the (rather questionable) OCZ disk. I'll restore the backup to the new Samsung drive, install the new drive, and then see if I can run sfc /scannow, etc. successfully. If not, I'll first try on my own to fix things, and if needed, come back to you for further help.

That's it, for now. I'll update you with progress on installing the Samsung SSD, which will be my next post either from this computer (JoeGinch) or my laptop (Oscar III). Till then; thanks for all you folks do; it's awesome!

Never a dull moment. Somehow the 2 Feb 2019 backup has disappeared, so I'm left with one from 30 May 2018 -- at least that's well before the SSD started to fail. It is also before my update to Windows 10.1809, so I'll have to redo that. There also will likely be a bunch of other program updates to work through. That's OK, when I'm finished, I should have a solid system. The restore is in progress so there will be another update in about 20 minutes. So far, so good.

The recovery completed normally and I've started sfc /scannow in an elevated PS window. It is beyond 13%, which is where it failed previously. I'm turning in now and will send along more updates later in the morning. It is 01:05 now, time to get some zzzzzs.

Well, I stayed up and worked a bit longer. The sfc /scannow run completed showing NO errors. Hurrah! So, I've started the in-place upgrade from v1703 to v1809. I didn't bother to take a system restore point since I'll just reload the back up if necessary. The install has started, now it is 01:48, so I'm really going to call it a day now. I'll update the results in a couple of hours. Thanks.
