Hmm... I'm not finding what I'd like to see.
Let's try the following:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator

Capture Process Monitor Trace
  1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
  2. Copy the following commands and paste them into the command window one at a time, pressing enter after each.

    net stop wuauserv

    net start wuauserv

    sfc /scannow
  3. Stop Process Monitor about 30 seconds after SFC fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar.
  4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
  5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

Can you verify that the key

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_microsoft-windows-t..nalservices-runtime_31bf3856ad364e35_none_61eaed0b7fa8837d

Let me know if you get an error message or not.

Okay, I've tested a fix that should work. Please upload a fresh copy of the software hive, then I can send you the fixed version for replacement.

Can you confirm that the size of the SOFTWARE file in C:\Windows\System32\Config\ is 73.5 MB (77,070,336 bytes)?

Hi,
Thanks for all your help on this. I went ahead and decided to just wipe it and start over. Since it was my TV server for the house I was really not looking forward to reconfiguring everything. TV Cards, Media Portal Kodi TV Guide etc.
So I did that yesterday and the new SSD I had put in like 3 months ago, to replace a bad drive, was bad. Nothing really specifically pointing to that, however, when I tried to install windows 10 fresh it would not get past the stage where it's copying files during the install. Put a different drive in it and all was well. Except the 12 hours of reconfiguring everything from scratch on the new OS. So I guess that had something to do with corrupted registry keys.
Thanks again for all your efforts,
Sam
