When I run SFC scannow I get the message that it failed, here are the failures from the logs:
Code:
2023-07-08 08:39:19, Info CBS Failed to get visibility for package: Microsoft-OneCore-DirectX-Database-FOD-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.22621.1 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

The only outright failure is the last line, which talks about C:\windows\System32\drivers\wacompen.sys, THIS FILE DOES NOT EXIST. The closest one I have is wacomrouterfilter.sys.

It is possible that this file was associated with an old version of the Wacom Stylus driver (but I don't know which version) and that I now have a new driver (I do use a Wacom stylus)

Have attached full Windows and CBS logs

The update which I am not able to install is KB5027303

I really want to save this Windows install because I made some tweaks to get the DPC latency down and I can't really remember them all now but the latency is screaming low and on a fresh install its really high. Hopefully none of the tweaks broke Windows update. What broke Windows update was when I was running my system on an unstable overclock, many files got corrupted and since then it's never been able to Windows update. I have since made sure that the OC is absolutely rock stable using prime 95 and other tools. I am 100% confident that it is stable now at this point in time, but there was a point in time where it was not stable and I am certain that that is what broke my Windows install.

I have a fresh install on a new drive now, but as I said, the latency is way, way worse, and it is missing dozens of pieces of licenced software that need to be installed which I have setup on this install. So I really really want to save it, and it works perfectly for all tasks except Windows update. I see no evidence of anything new ever being corrupted and I do a lot of heavy duty video editing pushing the machine hard for hours. The hardware as it is is capable of creating a new valid Windows install I have proven that. And I did drop the clock speeds down a bit just for good measure.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download the
577bf0efb8088-FRST.png
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Files button.
Code:
wacompen.sys
  • When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'Search.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also.
  • Post the logfile Search.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

Hi,

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following command. Attach Dirlist.txt to your next post.
Code:
dir /s /a %systemroot%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hiddigi.inf_amd64_56029d78ddb09ae0 > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the System File Checker and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.

Hi,

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following commands one at a time.
  • Replace 0 with the actual number of the HDD/SSD where Windows is installed.
  • Replace 1 with the actual number of the Windows OS partition.
Rich (BB code):
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list partition
select partition 1
list volume
Take a screenshot of this window and post it to your next post.

Code:

Hi,

No that's not necessary, your EFI and Recovery Partition are set to RAW, so we'll need to rebuild both partitions.
Rich (BB code):
Volume 4 RAW Partition 100 MB Healthy Hidden
Volume 5 RAW Partition 537 MB Healthy Hidden

Let's start with the EFI partition, but make first a complete backup / image of your system.

1. Boot the computer into the Recovery Environment - open the command prompt and run the following commands.
2. Replace 0 with the actual number of the HDD/SSD where Windows is installed.
Rich (BB code):
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list partition
3. Then run the following command and replace 1 with the actual number of the Windows OS partition.
Rich (BB code):
select partition 1
4. The following commands will resize the Windows OS partition and create the new EFI System Partition. (Note: the driveletter W should be free!)
Rich (BB code):
shrink desired=100
create partition efi size=100
format quick fs=fat32
assign letter=w
5. Run the following commands to list the partitions and volumes.
Code:
list partition
list volume
6. Note the drive letter where the Windows OS is installed, which is displayed after running list volume.
7. Close diskpart.
Rich (BB code):
exit
8. Run the following command: Replace X with the volume letter of the Windows OS partition.
Rich (BB code):
bcdboot X:\windows /s W:
9. Now the BCDBoot command copies the boot files from the Windows partition into the EFI System Partition and re-create the BCD store.

Hi,

Great, but we also need to repair the rebuild the recovery partition, this partition was also set to RAW. Could you please do the following again.

Hi,

Please post also a new (fullscreen) screenshot of Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) to look at.

DISK 1 is the current systemdrive?
DISK 2 is an old systemdrive as it seems?

If you have no problems with this system I would leave it as it is for now..
