[SOLVED] sfc /scannow corruption problems

SFCFix - Fix Time

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread. No one else should follow the instructions below to apply that fix, as it could damage your system. If you need assistance with an issue, please start a new thread and someone will assist you shortly.

Follow the instructions below to download and execute a SFCFix fix, and provide the log.
  • Download SFCFix and move the executable on your Desktop;
  • On your Desktop, right-click and select New, then Text Document. Give it the name SFCFixScript (it should be a .txt) extension;
  • Open the SFCFixScript.txt file you just created, and copy/paste the following in it;

  • Save any work you have open, and close every programs;
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it;

  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply;
 
In the earlier post today I had run sfcfix again and posted the result where it found 2 corrupt files. With sfcfix reporting surt total corruption count 2 I ran SURT which downloaded windows hotfix kb947821. It created a report with no corruption found. Then I saw your post above and ran sfcfix. This time the sfcfix reported no corruption found. I'm sorry that I ran the SURT before seeing your post. If I need to recreate the corruption in the cbs log by running sfc /scannow again i'll do that. Please let me know what steps you want me to do now. Please list them in the detailed format. Again sorry that I had ran SURT before seeing your tracing post.

ok thanks.......I'll need to wait to perform the above as you indicated that all programs need to be closed. in about 2 hours I'll reboot and then go through the steps that you posted earlier. It's seems to be getting above my head but I do my best to follow. For the SFCFix when I clicked on the link it has choices to run or save. What does move executable to desk top mean? How is that done? When I follow the information above I'll open this web page on another computer as well as this computer. Should I close this web page after clicking on sfcfix.exe so that everything is closed or just all programs need to be closed?
 
"Move the executable to the Desktop" means to move the SFCFix.exe file from your Downloads folder (the default save location for files you download online) to your Desktop. When you download SFCFix.exe if you want, you can choose "Save", and then save it on your Desktop. It'll be easier that way. And yes, once SFCFix.exe is downloaded and you followed all the steps (which mean you are at the point where you'll drag and drop the SFCFixScript.txt file on top of SFCFix.exe), close Internet Explorer.
 
When I clicked on SFCFix I then saved it and it created a second save. There was no option to choose a save location. I then clicked on start and typed downloads and looked for the sfcfix.exe. After finding it I dragged and dropped it to the desktop. What is the easier method without the save to location? In about 1 and 1/2 hours I'll attempt to follow the steps above. Thanks

If you already have SFCFix.exe and moved it to your Desktop, there's no need to download it again.

Uninstall a Windows Update - Command Prompt
Follow the instructions below to uninstall a Windows Update manually via the command prompt.
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below (you can copy/paste it, to paste in the command prompt, right-click inside it and select Paste):

  • Let me know the outcome of the command: either it uninstall the update or either it says that the update isn't installed on the system;

After KB2895729 was uninstalled using administrative command prompt it required a reboot.

After reboot I ran administrative command prompt sfc /scannow and it displayed no integrity violations.

Success! Aura that's great.

The second or older computer in the posts was for comparison as it is a similar computer (hardware and software. The second laptop when sfc /scannow is ran has no integrity violations. I just checked it for window update KB2895729 and it displayed no items match your search. I just ran sfc /scannow on that computer and it displayed windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.

The other current problem that I am experiencing on both computers is with Microsoft Security Essentials. The problems only occur on full scan with error code 0x800106ba. Quick scans and updates function normally. The full scan near the completion stops and displays at risk. Sometimes a full scan will complete without problems but more frequently both computers will display the same error code. The new computer had KB2895729 and the old computer does not have this windows update. So it is likely some other file.

No problem zookwin, you're welcome :) As for the Microsoft Security Essentials issue, I think this is a known issue with it, so I would try uninstalling and reinstalling it first, and if it doesn't work, seek assistance in the General Help and Information section :)
 
Yes, you uninstall it from the Control Panel, then restart your computer, and then you download it and install it :)

This notebook has been having problems with delayed time. Any chance any of the prior software changes with the sfc /scannow integrity violations could have impacted the OS to alter the time? I don't remember anymore but I think the time problems occurred before the sfc /scannow troubleshooting. Current sfc /scannow displays found no integrity violations. The CMOS RTC battery was replaced and this did not alter the delayed time. Yesterday HP replaced the motherboard, and Intel chip and monitoring the time at the web site (Time.is - exact time, any time zone) displayed delayed time. Immediately after the motherboard and Intel chip replacement the bios was reset. The web site time.is displayed exact time. As the notebook was used the time got more delayed. The time is now 2 minutes 28.6 behind. Before HP replaced the motherboard and chip they asked me to check the time with a second operating system. A utility was downloaded and installed on an external flash drive. Then Ubuntu linnux was installed on the external flash drive. When the notebook was restarted it was then booted from the external flash drive with Ubuntu. When Ubuntu was used the time was never delayed but always ahead. It was checked for approximately 12 hours. I don't remember now but it seemed to remain at about 7 seconds ahead. If the Ubuntu had exact time then they were going to attribute the problems to windows 7 professional. With Ubuntu also having time differences they replaced the hardware. Using speedfan software I monitored temperatures.Before the hardware replacement multiple temps (ACPI) were displayed at 85 degrees C. After hardware replacement most are at 85 degrees C but one is at 127 degrees C. I don't understand what it is reading as that temperature would likely melt the hardware. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and fix the time delay?
 
Of all the changes we made to your system, none of them affected your timezone, date/time, etc. so my guess is that the issue lies elsewhere. I would start a thread in the Windows 7 section asking about it :)
