FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Windows Features dialog. Wait until this dialog populates with information.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps.
5. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
6. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste
KB4041693 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please attach this to your next reply. It is saved on your desktop named SearchReg.txt.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Since this is Server 2012 R2, it loads Server Manager for "Windows Features". I selected the "Add Roles and Features Wizard", selected the local server, and clicked next past the Roles section and the Features section. I believe this loaded the hive you wanted. Log is attached.

  1. Success! (partially)
  2. Checked for updates and both 2017-12 and 2018-05 were still listed as Important Updates.
  3. Installed only KB4103725 (2018-05) with no issues.
  4. Rebooted and performed a full backup.
  5. Verified that the original major issue has been resolved. The issue was that an SMB update contained in KB4103725 did not allow a machine that had 2018-05 installed to RDP into a machine that did not have 2018-05 installed. This problem is fixed. I was able to RDP into the subject server without issue.
  6. Rebooted and checked for updates. 2017-12 was not listed. KB3185319 was listed as Important.
  7. Tried to install KB3185319. Failed with error 800F0831. CBS logs are at (Download CBS7.zip)

Awesome!

Update is not installed for KB4041693.
SearchReg found nothing in the registry for "4041693".
