Should i buy a new cooler or use 2.8 ghz?

My pc is gone now
sad.png
It was open for 28 hours and suddenly it shut down. I tried to open but when i click, power goes to harddisk and other parts but only black screen comes, it cant install windows or bios and waits in black screen.

After waiting a few hours, when i clicked, it could only show information screen before bios; my kind of bios f14 and gpu name and cpuid but it should have shown ram , 15700000 mb ram but it waited at that half screen and i had to restart. This uncompleted screen happened 2 times, mostly only black screen.

What can be problem, cpu or motherboard or my cpu that got high temperatures?

This happened 2 weeks ago.i solved. i took off motherboard from case and took off all cables and put somewhere and waited for 2 days. then it worked. But one
capacitor of motherboard was swollened and i guess motherboard has some issues. I would buy 2 gb rams but now it seems i will buy another things and spend more money

Update: Now i am on that computer and working.

I decided to put other 2.8 ghz to see if cpu was damaged. I took off heatsink and cpu was sticked the bottom of it! Despite cpu has clips and pins were correctly put, without openingg that lock, cpu sticked to heatsink and i was shocked. The thermal grass made this. So i put 2.8 ghz without paste and i did not clean, so there is some. And now it is around 22 c, a few tabs are open and performance is low. I am missing 3.2 ghz, i could make multiprogramming, multitabbing. How can 0.4 ghz affect so much?

Now i am afraid to try 3.2 ghz again. Pins are not damaged but i am sorry for it.

Without knowing for sure which 2 CPU's you actually have the 3.2 may have hyper-threading and the 2.8 doesn't.

Yes it has hyperthread. Now i will put again 3.2 to look if it is working but if it again gets stuck at cpuid screen in information, how can be sure if it is not working?

Everest was correclty showing the temperature of cpu but now it shows 21 c. And it is constant, it doesnot change. While iwas using, 3.2 ghz did this and after 1-2 hours , it shut down and i couldnot open. What can be problem?

See if core temp will show you anything> Core Temp

I put 3.2 ghz and it did not work so i took off it and saw that one pin on the corner was broken........ So, this cpu wont work anymore, will it?

And for hours i tried to open again with 2.8 but it couldnot load. 2-3 times it loaded windows, once it frozen after loading windows screen. Once i restarted to see if it would work again. so i guess motherboard has errors. I will buy a new motherboard (used), probably gigabyte again. Maybe i buy a 3.2 ghz again if i can find cheap, northwoods. Or 3.4. What should i buy and i will suggest testing before taking motherboard and cpu if they are working. In bios screen i will go into temperature and see if it is under 50 - 60 c, then i will buy cpu?

Can i only buy p4 motherboards and cpus now, what can i do? Probably my current motherboard is defected, cpu 2.8 is some slow. I have agp fx 5500 gpu and 1.5 ddr.

Maybe i can change to core if it is cheaper?

And all 3.2 ghz have hyper thread? How will i understand if they hyper and is presscot or other, because behind of it, it cant be readeble sometimes. And they can rip me off.

I dont want to spend more money but i want to go with thay 1-2 years more. Maybe more but at least one year.

Icant edit post. And socket 775, what should i buy, i want multitasking and long standing, using in nights.

I want to use my 1 gb ram because i bought it with a lot of money and it can be said new. And my agp fx 5500 gpu.

Cache is important?

I want performance, i dont want higher or more expensive one just it is more expensive. I liked 3.2 gh z but its temperature was problem.

Socket 775 would be the way to go, but finding a 775 board with a AGP slot may be a issue.
Presscot CPU's have hyper-threading Northwoods do not.

If you could find a Socket 775 board that has a AGP slot and supports a Pentium D CPU that may be you solution.

After days, i could solve. I found a cheap and likely new gigabyte 8ipe1000g and now everything seems cool. I ahve 2.8 ghz still. 1.5 gb ram. I couldnot find and did not want to spendm oney on 1 gb ram, maybei will buy 2x 512 and that will be enough for me ithink.

As you can see from my nickname, curses doesnot leave me. I bought a good motherboard and everything was fine but for 2 days. Then my psu gone. It was 350 watt everest, i bought 3-4 years ago.

With previous motherboard, i tried a lot of times on off, maybe this made. So i bought a new 300 watt everest because 4 years ago i bought around 15 dollars for 350 but now i bought 25 dolars for 300 watt because dollar gained value in my country.

I hope my system can handle with that. 2 x ram, 5 usb, 2 harddisk + 1 external, fx5500, 2.8 ghz.
Everest real 300 peak 350 watt.

And while usingp revious, i couldnot open cdrom. Whwn i clicked it, it doesnot eject just was making some noies. I have to touch the button al ot of times. When i first time put this new psu, cd rom could be opened easiliy a lot of times. This was in computer's. SO i came to home and oput a lot of usb and other stuff, and again it cant be oepened. After 5-6 times trying, it was ejected now. IT is dvdreader cd writer combo.

I dont want to think psu is not enough again, what will i do? Why did this cdrom work with low wattage things perfectly?

ANd now it works. I make 5 usbs busy and one green socket for mous but still works.

5 usbs are for
keyboard, webcam, phone charging, usb flash and external harddisk.

Wattges are from everest program
1.5 167
2.5 26.3
3.3 3.32
5 5.08
12 12.25

cpu core 1.57

and one of usb (webcam but i used another usb cable to make large, maybe because of that) doesnot work.

IF cdrom is efected (but it is not, it can read cds and write, just ejection is problem), can it damage motherboard or psu ? MAybe my previous ones were damaged of thart cdrom.
