Skyrim, Dawnguard, and Putting a Price on Gameplay Hours

Bethesda released, rather surprisingly, the Dawnguard expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the PC platform, via Steam, earlier this week.

While all of us here at the Softpedia office agree that more Skyrim is always a good thing, its price tag, however, generated quite a debate.

Most of us got Skyrim when it first appeared on the PC for the full price of $49.99/€49.99. Since then, we’ve spent way too many hours in the mythical land of Tamriel, some even reaching the fabled 200-hour mark with Bethesda’s stunning role-playing game.

Now, Dawnguard appeared as a rather lengthy expansion, adding around 15 hours of new content to the game, according to Bethesda, for a price of $19.99/€19.99.

Bah I say. Dawnguard is a little too overpriced for its content.

And 200 hours? Feh. Real gamers are comfortable only in the quadruple digits! :D

The games that really put a price on gameplay hours are the subscription based games.

I literally did everything and maxed every skill out on skyrim in just over 100...

Bit overkill as I haven't touched it since...

I have about 300 or so hours put into Dark Souls... Finally got the last achievement for it yesterday... I found that a much more fun and rewarding game than skyrim... Skyrim just didn't have a replayability for me...

I have a few friends who bought Dawnguard($20) and said it was all right... TBH, I don't buy very many DLC's... I will however likely buy the new one coming out for dark souls at the end of the month :grin1:

Eh Skyrim just got too chocked up with boring sidequests, I felt overwhelmed at one point and just quit, but it was a great romp for a while. Oblivion had more replayability. I just prefer the older games. I've clocked in several thousand hours of Morrowind, I ain't ever needed the expansions, but they were pretty good too, I had over 25 gbs worth of mods for that game, crazy stuff.
