SFCFix SOFTWARE Collection

Download SFCFix.exe using the following link and save the tool to your Desktop: [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload]
Download SFCFixScript.txt and save this to your Desktop as well: https://app.box.com/s/zvuudzhlvdgv7rosx98e
On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
SFCFix will now begin to upload your SOFTWARE hive to our server.

Ok then, now for the slightly harder bit. Please let me know if you have any hesitations or issues with any of the steps - don't do anything you're not 100% sure of. I've tried to make it as easy as possible!

SOFTWARE Hive Replacement with RegBak

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Close all open programs and save all your work. You will need to reboot the machine during this process.
Download SOFTWARE.zip from -->here<-- to your desktop and extract the file SOFTWARE to your desktop (it has no file extension)
Download RegBak from this page (it's under the Freeware section at the bottom of the page): Acelogix Software - Download products
Extract the contents of the .zip file to the a folder of your choice.
Double click on regbak64.exe to launch RegBak. Press Yes on the UAC prompt that will appear
Click New Backup to open the new backup window. Leave the backup path as the default.
Click Click here to view details and uncheck all options except for C:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE. Press OK
Click Start to create a backup.
Once the backup is done, click Close to return to the main RegBak screen. You have now backed up the registry. Close RegBak
Navigate to the folder you saved your backup (It should be C:\Windows\RegBak\PC-NAME\DATE)
Inside the folder, double click Windows, System 32 and config to get to a folder with the SOFTWARE hive in:
Copy the SOFTWARE file from your desktop (not the zip file), to that folder. When asked if you want to replace the current SOFTWARE file, choose yes.
Open RegBak again. Highlight the backup in the list (it should be the only one), and press Restore. Click Start. RegBak will reboot your computer to complete the restore process.

Once you've done that, please run the SURT again and post the log as before.

It seems regbak now uses an installer instead of a zip - you can install regbak if you wish rather than downloading the zip file and extracting it as in step 4. They've changed that since the weekend (I've been planning this fix for a while

) - grrr....

Fantastic!

I always get nervous when doing that kind of fix, because one mistake can break the whole machine! But in this case it's worked perfectly (the real proof will be the SURT, but so far so good!)

Since it was the first time of me really using RegBak to perform this kind of repair, how easy did you find it to use? Is there anything I could do to improve my instructions? I'm always open to feedback on my instructions. :)

Regbak seems pretty straight forward. The installer version doesn't show the ...64.exe; it just runs. Your directions were excellent. Enough detail to answer the questions but not so much as to bog down in or confuse.

Good technical writers are always in demand.

SFCFix Script

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.
