[SOLVED] Unable apply monthly Rollup updates on Windows 7 x64 Home

Hi,

Lets see if Dism will fix the problem for us...

Install Update using Dism
  1. Please download KB2984972 http://download.windowsupdate.com/c..._2545620eadc06a0a3fd426b5853b2e0b48187599.msu save the file to c:\windows\temp
  2. change the name of the update file to a smaller name windows6.1-KB2984972-x64.msu
(keep the extension .msu in the end of the file name in case its visible if not ignore that)
  3. open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  4. type or Copy & Paste the following commands line by line:

    cd /d c:\windows\temp
    expand windows6.1-KB2984972-x64.msu -f:* C:\windows\temp
    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\windows\temp\windows6.1-KB2984972-x64.cab

  5. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?
  6. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.

If you receive any other message:
  7. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  8. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

Ok, try to install one update, if it fails post the error code and collect the CBS.log

Failed!
Same thing as the last time. Same error (80073712)
with the april updates. The Windows Updates always
get stucked at 11% and then the error appears...
Here the CBS.log:
CBS.zip

Hi,

Dism didn't work, I need to check the registry and fix it manually...

Retrieve the Components Hive
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file
  2. Please copy the COMPONENTS file to your desktop
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again
  3. Right-click on this file on your Desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your Desktop
  4. If file will is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or upload to www.sendspace.com and just provide the link for the file here

Hi,

Here you have the COMPONENTS file:
components.zip

Just in case you want to have a look at the CBS
file from today (after restarting computer) :
CBS.zip
Yesterday CBS.log generated a file larger than 179MB
today's one is much smaller about 2MB
Hope this can help you!!

Need also the other two files...

Export Registry Hive (CBS)
  • download the script ExportCBSRegistry2.cmd and save it to the Desktop
  • right-click the file ExportCBSRegistry2.cmd and select Run as administrator
  • when the script ends a new file called SoftwareCBS.zip will be located on the Desktop
  • If the zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or upload to www.sendspace.com and just provide the link for the file here

Export Registry keys (SBS)
  • download the script ExportSbSRegistry.cmd and save it to the Desktop
  • right-click the file ExportSbSRegistry.cmd and select Run as administrator
  • when the script ends a new file called SoftwareSBS.zip will be located on the Desktop
  • If zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here

Hi,

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCScript.txt, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    8RAhYFg.gif
    SFCScript.txt
  • Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

After the fix please run SURT again and post the checksur.log

Ok. Try to install one of the updates if it fails tell me the kb number, the error code and collect the CBS.log

Thank you very much for patience and support!
The feeling is really great to have everything working
as it should. At least till 2020 when the support for
W7 will end...really dont like windows 10, the access
to the real OS is hidden underneath
superfluous features focused on marketing.
Case closed, have a great week!
