[SOLVED] Unable to copy cloned old SSD to larger SSD or install Windows 10

I think I must be missing something.

Can you describe what you have done so far to clone the smaller SSD to the larger SSD?

i.e. attached smaller ssd using usb adapter, used 'clone disk' in acronis etc.?

With the original ssd installed I used Acronis Clone Disk (Automatic Clone mode) to copy to a portable HDD. I then installed the larger ssd and attempted copy the clone back to it using the standard: Windows Start-up Repair - System Recovery Options - Restore your computer to an earlier time using a system image that you created earlier. This should have worked but produced the error message: An internal error occurred - The system cannot find the specified file (0x800 70002), This is the same error message that I get when I try to install Windows 10 on this laptop with the original ssd installed.

I then contacted Sysnative to which you kindly replied and then followed all your suggestions utilising Acronis Bootable Media ISO image on a flash drive which should have worked but didn't as the portable HDD could not be accessed.

Clone mode turns the destination drive (your portable hdd) into a clone (copy) of the source drive (your smaller SSD).
You could use this mode if you have an SATA to USB adapter with which to attach your larger SSD to the computer.

If not, the way to proceed is to create a backup (not a clone) to the portable HDD and then restore it to your larger SSD using the bootable recovery environment.

Follow the instructions here to create a new backup: Acronis True Image 216: Backing Up Individual Disks or Files | Knowledge Base
Be sure to choose the Disk and Partition backup and check the box for your SSD 'disk' to get all the partitions on it.

Let me know when you have successfully created the backup.

I copied discs & partitions from the ssd disc to the portable HDD according to the Acronis Knowledge Base you indicated. I changed over to the larger ssd, plugged in the portable HDD and attempted to boot using the flash drive I had previously created. Unfortunately it didn't work out as after Acronis Loader is started I get in sequence: "Unable to execute program. Press enter to proceed" "Unable to load initial ramdisk. Press enter to proceed" "Unable to load Linux kernel. Press enter to reboot" and then Acronis starts again.

I'm not really sure that a SATA connector is compatible with Asus' non standard ssd. It required an adaptor in order to install the larger M2 ssd to the motherboard.

Hi guys, I've come across a few situations in the past where the bootable software media didn't appear to have the correct ?USB? drivers to access the drive. On switching to a different brand of software, all went as expected.

SUCCESS. I found a SATA to USB connector complete with an adaptor for my Asus UX31 larger SSD (which also has to have an adaptor) on eBay for around $20. After a false start with Acronis "Disks & Partitions" which was going to take 20+ hours' I just used the "Clone Disk" facility and it was completed in a fraction of the time. The machine is noticeably faster now too. It also appears that Windows 10 can now be downloaded, so perhaps there was insufficient hard drive space which caused it to fail before, although the error message did not indicate this. What a relief. I can't thank you enough for all your help and sticking with me until it was resolved.
