Unable to install 4 Windows updates

Unfortunately, this is a very bad sign and may very well be the root cause of your corruption. This means that the SSD has started to fail, backup all your data as soon as you can, I would advise you to either replace the drive in order not to lose anything important. May I see the S.M.A.R.T. parameters as well, please?

The SSD life pro says that there is over 8 years remaining! so I guess I don't understand why you say it is failing.
 
Yes, that's an "estimate" but we can conclude both from the symptoms (corrupt boot files) and from the SMART values 3 retired sectors that the SSD is indeed failing.
