Hello and welcome!

Retrieve Components Hive

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB3212646-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB3212646-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Hi,

This is what I get:

C:\>dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB32
12646-x64.cab

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Image Version: 6.1.7601.18489

An error occurred trying to open - C:\Users\XXXXXXXX\desktop\Windows6.1-KB3212
646-x64.cab Error: 0x80070003

Error: 3

The system cannot find the path specified.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Did you extract the zip to the Desktop? If so, please try the following command instead:

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB3212646-x64.cab\Windows6.1-KB3212646-x64.cab

Sure! The system couldn't find a file from another update that was required for the install to proceed, so I used your COMPONENTS hive to see which update the file belongs to, and then had you manually install the update in order for the system to be able to locate the file.

Hi,

How did you determine that it couldn't find a file? What software did you use to open the components hive?

Hi,

Which line in the log? I noticed this but how would you link it to KB3212646??

2018-09-04 21:48:22, Info CBS Appl: detectParent: package: Package_1593_for_KB4343900~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.5, no parent found, go absent

Code:
Info CBS Failed to find file: x86_microsoft-windows-directwrite_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.23545_none_c67f532e01cd149d\DWrite.dll [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

I simply searched the hive using Control + F and copy pasting the component name (x86_microsoft-windows-directwrite_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.23545_none_c67f532e01cd149d) into the search and hitting enter, then I used the c! mark information to link it to the deployments key under CanonicalData which provided me with the KB number in question.

Hi,

Sorry help me out here as I need to make sure that the great help that you have provided can be replicated. When I search the C! mark under deployments key, it gave me below:

I have no idea where you are searching, but this is not the registry.
