Hello LiquidTension,

There are actually 2 logs there believe it or not, CheckSUR and CheckSUR.persist, and they have the same date and time, which corresponds to the time when this installation completed. So if you are wondering, neither one was formed when we installed it last week.
I will place them one after the other

Hello,

Thank you. Your logs do not indicate any issues at this point in time. Please run Windows Update and search for updates. Close any other open windows beforehand, and do not use the computer whilst Windows Update is running.

If possible, please leave Windows Update running overnight for at least 6 hours, and report back the results in your next reply.

Good afternoon,

Friday night, on a whim, I decided to check my Update History. For some reason it shows that update KB2310138 keeps installing over and over again every 1 to 3 days. Don’t know what this update is and since I have Windows Update set to never check for updates I don’t know why it is installing it at all.

I did the overnight check for updates Friday night and in the morning I found 30 plus Important updates and a few Optional.

I closed Windows Update as I was doing other things and when I reopened it the updates were gone and the “check for updates” button was there. At least it said that I had checked for updates previously so that is an improvement, but usually when I open Update after not installing updates it still shows the ones that were there. I do not know why they were not showing anymore.

I am going to do the check for updates again. When they come up should I try to install all the Important updates, or maybe just 1 to begin with, or is there something else you would rather I do instead?

I hope you have a good Memorial Day.

One other thing. When I checked for updates Friday night, according to the time Windows Update says it last checked for updates, it took about 5 hours

Hello,

KB2310138 pertains to Microsoft Security Essentials, and definition updates for the programme's database. This behaviour is normal, and not indicative of an issue.

Once you have rechecked for updates, please go ahead and install all the Important updates. Let me know how you get on, and if any fail to install.

One other thing. When I checked for updates Friday night, according to the time Windows Update says it last checked for updates, it took about 5 hours
This is not necessarily out of the ordinary - unfortunately, it can sometimes take this long to check for updates.

Hello,
I did another check for updates Saturday night.
This morning (Tuesday) I had a look at the available Optional updates, went back to the main page and clicked the Important updates, to see if there was anything that I didn’t want, and when I did so an hourglass appeared next to my cursor. After a half hour, when I clicked X to close the window a notification came up saying that Windows Explorer was not responding…did I want to check for a solution. I clicked “yes” and as usual no solution was found. When I opened Windows Update again, again there were no updates to download.

There is definitely something wrong. Once a check for updates is done it has always retained them to download at a later time. It shouldn’t be giving me a “use it or loose it” scenario. If the checks you had me run before show nothing wrong could there be a conflict between previously installed updates or something?

Hello,

Using Internet Explorer, please go to the following website:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3125574

Scroll down to How to get this convenience rollup, and click the Microsoft Update Catalog link.

Follow the prompts to download the standalone installer KB3125574.

After the file has downloaded, please run the installer to install the update.

Good Morning LiquidTension,

I followed your instructions, downloaded and installed the 64 bit version of KB3125574.

Checked for updates last night (it took 6 hours and 10 minutes) and there were fewer Important updates than the previous time. I clicked on "Important Updates" to have a look and when the window changed there was the following message:
"An error occurred while attempting to retrieve the list of applicable updates for your computer. To continue, please close and reopen the Windows Update control panel. (Error code: 80248007)."

When I closed and reopened the control panel the updates were gone.

Okay, here are the results
Problems found:

Windows Update error 0x80070490(2016-06-03-T-10_40_23A). Not fixed.
Service registration is missing or corrupt. Fixed.
Problems installing recent updates. Fixed.
Problems installing recent updates. Fixed.

Hello,

At this moment in time, we'd like to test your RAM for potential issues.

Please download and run MemTest86: MemTest86 - Download now!
You can find full instructions on using the programme here: PassMark MemTest86 - Memory Diagnostic Tool - Technical Information

You ultimately have a choice between using a CD or USB drive - whichever suits your needs better. However, please be aware some older generation motherboards do not support USB-based booting, so your only option will be a CD if this is the case.

Note: Please ensure you allow 8 passes of the programme.

Let me know how you get on, and the results of the test.

Hello,

We are now getting in to things I know nothing about.
The instructions seem reasonably straightforward and I believe this computer uses BIOS so I think I'm on top of that.
But you mentioned to allow 8 passes of the program. Does it keep doing passed until you stop it or do you set it for a certain number of passes? And if so, how?
Things are going to be pretty hectic the next couple of weeks but if it doesn't take too long there should be a day I can do it.
Would you give me an idea of what to expect?
Thank you for your patience!

Good morning Brian,

LiquidTension said to let it run for 8 passes. How long does it take to do a pass?
Can other work be done while it is working?
I have a lot of work the next couple of weeks.

Hello,

MemTest86 conducts a series of tests. The completion of all tests equates to one "pass" - however, one pass is not necessarily conclusive enough, which is why we recommend multiple passes (at least eight). If we are to be more than reasonably confident there is no issue with your RAM, multiple passes will need to be performed.

The programme will run indefinitely, going through pass after pass until you manually stop the programme. As such, you simply need to leave the programme running (eg. overnight) until at least eight passes have been completed. This process can take a while, which is why we recommend performing the test overnight. It is not a case of initiating the test and being done within the hour. There is no definitive time as to how long one pass or multiple passes will take - but treat this process as something that should be left running overnight.

You will not have access to your Windows installation whilst the test is running, so will be unable to use your computer for other work.

Here is a great FAQ I recommend you consider reading: FAQ : please read before posting
And here is an alternative set of instructions that may provide further context: Test RAM With Memtest86+

Once eight passes have been completed, you may wish to report by the results by taking a photo of your screen.

Thank you both for the additional information.

Okay. I finally had a change to look through the info and run the test. Here are the results:
