  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.

Thanks. I do not understand the instruction in the second half of No. 8, starting with: "...put (noparse).....tags around the log"? I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Can you clarify, perhaps showing an example? Thanks.

Go to each of the listed locations and zip up the files listed. Thanks.

Only two of the four files had contents, so I only uploaded those two. Also, they are very small, so I did not zip them. Hope this is what you need.

Thanks again.

Sorry. The second file is the wrong one. Correct one attached.

This is a 512 gb samsung solid state drive, with 54.75 gb free. Norton antivirus is not uninstalled, but has been disabled (antivirus and firewall) when updating/upgrading.

Can you please uninstall it with its removal tool and retry the upgrade?

Ok. I think I have tried that at least once over the last 18 months, but I will do a complete uninstall of Norton and try the 1809 upgrade again.

How do you want me to set the status of Windows Defender?

It is 23:22 here in California, so I will do this in the morning. Thanks again for your patience. I really appreciate it.

Please turn it off temporarily while you upgrade. There is an underlying error somewhere, and we have to find it.
If it fails, again, please search for setuperr.log and attach it.

Have a good night.

Upgrade 1809 failed at about 69%. Setuperr.log is attached.

This time, I: used the removal tool to uninstall Norton (anti-theft app did not unload) and rebooted. Then, disabled Windows Defender. Then ended apps in the system tray, went into task manager and ended app services I was sure were not needed (could not end Acronis backup services) and disabled and ended windows installer worker and windows installer services.

Then mounted the 1809 iso onto a virtual clone drive (software file and software clone drive) and ran it as administrator.

Failed at about 69%.

Lots of info in the setuperr.log. Hope it helps. Thanks again.

Notes: Search still not functioning ("can't find file").
SFC /scannow still not functioning. As before, returns: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"
