If you went in there with a crowbar and a hammer, or didn't unplug power from the wall or discharge static from your body first and haphazardly went around and touched things, then
maybe it
might cause some harm. But of all the devices inside our cases, hard drives are probably the most robust. So I am a little suspicious of his claim but without knowing exactly what he said or was referring to, I will reserve judgement. And since most shops charge a minimum of 1 hour of labor for all jobs and $60/hour is a very fair rate so, if you are happy with the job they did, I'd say all is good.
