VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE and DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD

My question at this point is this, since you purchased the laptop, has it ALWAYS crashed regardless of what OS installation you've been on?

Regards,

Patrick

No I haven't any system restore point older than 3 weeks ago.

When a tdr failure bsod appears, after boot the fan becomes fast and loud and after a minute a power state failure bsod appears.
I am testing the Nvidia driver I'm into with less intensive games like Counter Strike 1.6 or Source. No bsod. But when it comes to more intensive games like DotA or CS:GO, There is a good chance that the NVidia driver will stop, and it will result to a tdr bsod then a power state failure bsod. I'm attaching the dumps below.

Hi jcgriff2

I have enabled Driver Verifier as you instructed, and I encountered a verifier related bsod upon startup. I have disabled verifier now.

Hi -

The bugcheck was 0xc4 = VERIFIER_ENABLED DUMP and flagged NVIDIA -

I am at loss. Do you mean how old the laptop is? I don't know, but I bought this laptop 5-6 months ago. Also, because the latest driver caused me bsod, I tried rolling back to the 314.22 driver which was released March 25, 2013, if that could of any help.

Hi -

The age of the laptop is helpful because it should still be under warranty. I strongly urge you to contact the system manufacturer.

MSI USA - Technical Support

I was really asking about the BisonCam device, which I assume is a webcam.

I saw the 2006 driver date; hence the reason I asked its age.

However, checking my own laptops found the same drivers for my HP webcam -
http://www.sysnative.com/drivers/driver.php?id=usbvideo.sys
http://www.sysnative.com/drivers/driver.php?id=ksthunk.sys

I usually don't link to Google searches, but your BisonCam device returned 1,000s of hits for device drivers - so I was unsure if MSI had a driver for it or if default Microsoft drivers were supposed to be used -

I have found over the years that BSODs involving well written drivers like NVIDIA can in fact be caused by other 3rd party video-related drivers, but not necessarily naming the actual offending driver.

If I click on the Windows 8.1 upgrade, it takes me to --> http://event.msi.com/us/win8-1/Update.html

However, I am unable to find your specific model listed.

When you mention rolling back drivers, where did you obtain the various NVIDIA drivers from? From MSI or directly from NVIDIA?

If from NVIDIA, that may be the issue here, especially if MSI modified the NVIDIA driver (or NVIDIA modified it for MSI).

Pardon for my mistake. I have no idea how old the device is, although it is embedded on the laptop itself. Also, I have contacted MSI support and will wait for their response.

I actually obtained the driver from NVidia website. Thanks for the info! I am going to get the driver from MSI itself.

Edit: That is actually my device. And I've seen that it isn't listed on the Windows 8.1 upgrade site as you said.
